I bought my Overland because it was a great riding, super luxurious, full features SUV that looked great and had the capability to take us up to a ski resort or snow covered mountain to get a Xmas tree, while still being in a luxurious setting. It also works great in the summer as a comfortable road trip vehicle with the cooled seats on and the pano roof open. And it always looks good.

Is it fair to compare it to an X5? Sure. But the X5 had that typical German interior design that I didn't really care for, plus they were amazingly common back home. I could have bought a Mercedes ML, but honestly, I liked the looks outside and inside of the Jeep more. The Q7 was too big, and the Q5 I didn't like the steering wheel (but LOVED the sounds of the VR6), was a bit small too.

The GC Overland just hits all things well. Good sized, decent fuel economy, luxurious inside, great looks, rides awesome, plenty of Hemi power, and doesn't cost a small fortune in upkeep. Very happy with it, probably one of the best SUVs on the market right now.
Thanks for that post. That was the first rational honest post and you didn't attack me and call me a loser. Thank you very much for sharing your opinion. I understand you points alot. This is how a thread should be.

Re: WK2 Test Drive

Let's be fair, the WK drives much better on road than the WJ did.

Ric-So no answer to what the x5 manual advises with regard to going off pavement? I'll enlighten you. It says "don't do it".

I didn't say this overland wk2 is the best off road jeep ever made, just that its a better off road vehicle than any x5 ever manufactured. That's not name calling, it's fact stating. Get it?

Ric, you also mention the awesome, world renowned, 20" Goodyear fortera tires on the jeep? Are you nuts? Dude, these tires aren't good off-road tires. You should know that given your extensive knowledge of the new Cherokee.

Cheers.

Re: WK2 Test Drive

I have a good friend who has an X5...loves BMWs. When she rode in our Laredo X for the first time she said "I really need to stop spending all that money for BMWs"...and thats a Laredo X...put her in an Overland or Summit and see what she says.

The X5 is a nice vehicle, but they are MUCH more expensive than the WK2, not really a fair comparison.

As for the WK...lets just put it this way...the WK2 was the first Jeep I would have even considered buying.

Let me also say I love BMW x5's. if I had endless money I'd own an x5. I just wouldn't drive it on the beach...I'd buy a jeep for that....

Re: WK2 Test Drive

I'll say it again... I owned a 4.7 liter GC and it was junk in comparison to the wk2.

Both the wk and wk2 suck equally when it comes to serious off roading. But the wk2 is superior in every other measure. As far as serious off roading is concerned, that's why I also own this...

Yeah the wk2 isn't the ideal off road vehicle, the point is that its more capable than an x5 when off road. Wrangler is definitely the ticket if you're climbing a rock, either that or an old Cherokee set up specifically for climbing.
