WK2 Testdrive/Ordering Experience

New registered user but have been reading for awhile figured I would post this.

I test drove the '11 Limited 4x4, 5.7L, luxury II, back on the first of July. The dealer that had it was the only one in Northern Virginia that had one on the lot they claim because they were "a high volume dealer". Apparently they drove one down from the training session they had at Fedex Field in Maryland a couple days before.

So as you have read from all the magazine reviews it is a fantastic vehicle. I had to test drive with a chaperone from the dealer (I hate those places, there are not many around here that require it but I wont buy from those that do). But he suggested I go down some rougher roads and try out the suspension and punch the 5.7 a few times. So I did. Great ride. I would have probably bought on the spot but they were completely unwilling to move on the price.

I called around to about 12 area dealerships (believe it or not there are more than that within 50 miles of my house). No one else had them on the lot but said they had on order. Most were unwilling to order saying they had some on the way and if I could just wait until those came in . . . . Those that were willing to order the options I wanted would only move about 1000.00 or less in price. There are currently no incentives available and the dealers were claiming that they are "selling at MSRP or above and if you don't take it someone else will so there is no reason to move in price".

So I ended up finding a no BS dealer that was willing to order me one, on the 5th of July I placed a 500.00 deposit and ordered:

-Limited 4x4
-5.7 V8
-Black interior
-Black Exterior
-Class IV towing package
-730 Media Center

Doesn't sound that special but it is amazing how few 5.7s the dealers had on order and almost no black leather interiors (most are the frost color which is tan/brown).

MSRP for the car was 42,540, got it in writing that they will sell for 39,740. Don't know if it is the best deal around but was the best I could find. Also stated that I can have any incentives or rebates that are available at delivery time.

So does anyone know how to track order status? Dealer had no idea on delivery time but said probably 8-12 weeks based on past years experience. I called chrysler and they said even with a VON it takes 7-10 days for them to have it appear in the system.

UPDATE (09 July 2010)

Called customer service today was told VIN number has been assigned, and Status is "Gateline Schedule" "Order Ready for Build". I verified this wording several times with Amy that I spoke with in customer service. She says their system does not show a code such as "BA - Pending Order" or whatever like my build sheet showed from the dealer. According to the www.wk2jeeps.com the terminology they show for build sheets and the codes do not match, but the rep says I can keep checking weekly and that they will have updated notes in their system. Still could not give me an estimated completion date but when I said are we looking at 8 weeks like the dealer said she responded "oh no it should be much less than that, but I can't give you a firm timeframe".
I guess that is progress for only ordering four days ago!

UPDATED 12 JULY 2010

Estimated Ship date of August 2nd!

I agree. I think you did pretty well. Best of luck and post those pics when you get it!

Try calling 1-800-992-1997 jeep cust. asst. #. Give them the VON# and they can give you a ballpark of when its going to be built. Once you get the VIN# from the dealer they should be able to give date its going to be built and shipped. With new launch things dont always go as planned.

Test drove at Lustine Jeep/Dodge in Woodbridge, ended up buying at a Maryland dealer about 50 miles from my house. Much better customer service and return phone calls almost immediately not just when they "get around to it". Plus the price break was nice.

Did you make sure the one you ordered will be coming with the Quadra Lift? I am assuming that you want this feature? If so, better call them up and make sure it will be included. Again, the Quadra Lift is separate from the Select Terrain system. Without Quadra Lift you will not be able to raise and lower the ride height and it is a "late availability" item.

Awesome! Congrats!
Its so weird that the next gen Jeep is now being ordered, feel like I just got my WK and it was the new hot thing! Im ready for that 2012 SRT Jeep baby haha, I imagine the 2013 and so on will just be amazing, nothing short of perfection!

So what is the highest level for the WK2? Is it Limited or Overland? From the pics I've seen they look awesome both inside and out. I would love to see a new SRT model but with everything going green I wonder if it will be nothing more than a concept/ mule.

Superb first post mate and congrats on ordering one! I look forward to seeing more of it!

Re QuadraLift, I'll refrain from judgement until it's released and you've driven one. If the Toureg is anything to go by, the steel suspended version is a much better drive. Air susp can be done poorly as well as good. ;)

Well, after work I found a 2011 Limited with the 5.7L to test drive. WOW!!!!! This thing is sick! It seriously gives top of the line midsize SUVs (BMW, RR) a real run for their money.

This thing is by far the best in class for the midsize SUV. I really cannot see how the Explorer has any cahnce in hell. I know a lot of folks are saying "it looks like the X5". Well, guess what......IT DOES! In fact, it looks even better! The 20" wheels are beautiful. The interior is fantastic.

This thing is going to be a big hit.

Hey guys/gals, new here. I just ordered one today. Got a limited 4x4, v8 with navigation. Paid invoice and will get any incentives that are available between now and delivery, if any. The only thing I'm not sure on is the air suspension. The dealer today told me it came with the limited. I've read conflicting things about its availability. The consensus on this site seems to be that it is a delayed feature and only standard on the overland, but one poster said they saw it on a limited they test drove. Also, this article says its standard with any 2011 with quadra trac 2.

It's not a feature I will ever need so its not that big of a deal, I just cannot seem to find a clear answer on whether or not its included. I certainly wouldn't have paid extra for it.

Also, this and other sources I've read indicate navigation is an option on a Laredo, as of today it is not an option to order on any configuration of the Laredo. The dealer was really surprised by this, I was going to end up getting the limited any ways, but it seemed odd.

The Quadra Lift is currently not available (not even through the order banks) so your dealer is misinformed and you should call him on it. Regardless, the cost of the system was not included in the price of your car since it is not available yet.

As for the navigation, the current Nav unit is a simple plug and play unit that is easily swapped out with the base radio. I did it with my current 08 Laredo (same units) and it took me around 15 mins.

I believe some of the units that have been test driven by members here were test mules at the Jeep destination events. Those units arent for sale to the public yet. Im pretty sure quadra lift is a delayed option

Yeah that is the info I used, voice prompt will tell you to say "Grand Cherokee" at some point to talk to a customer service rep about the 2011. Both ladies I have spoken with were very nice and very helpful.

Estimated Ship date as of today August 2nd so not too bad. Should be receiving about 30 days after ordering.

Ok so I drove a V6 equip Laredo and have to say it felt more responsive than my 08 with the newer 4.7L

Obviously the interior was miles better then my 08, but I was, until now, thinking of getting an Overland with the HEMI, but I think I am going with the V6.

Only thing I don't like is the single exhaust. Honestly, I don't know why they just don't have the dual exhaust for the six as well.

One of my friends drove what I believe was an overland with the V6 and was not impress. Possibly with the lighter laredo maybe with 2 wheel drive it would be ok. Did the one you drove have 4 wheel drive?

The v6 was not an option for me because of towing needs. Be curious to see what people are thinking of the v6 test drives from model to model.
