Re: WK2 Testdrive/Ordering Experience

Ok so I drove a V6 equip Laredo and have to say it felt more responsive than my 08 with the newer 4.7L

Obviously the interior was miles better then my 08, but I was, until now, thinking of getting an Overland with the HEMI, but I think I am going with the V6.

Only thing I don't like is the single exhaust. Honestly, I don't know why they just don't have the dual exhaust for the six as well.

Re: WK2 Testdrive/Ordering Experience

One of my friends drove what I believe was an overland with the V6 and was not impress. Possibly with the lighter laredo maybe with 2 wheel drive it would be ok. Did the one you drove have 4 wheel drive?

The v6 was not an option for me because of towing needs. Be curious to see what people are thinking of the v6 test drives from model to model.

Re: WK2 Testdrive/Ordering Experience

I drove the V6 in a limited 4x4 and above 2000 rpms...it was very nice and torquey...plenty of power. More powerful than the 05-07 4.7 V8....
It has a sweet powerband. I think the V6 has more potential for F/I as well.

Re QuadraLift, I'll refrain from judgement until it's released and you've driven one. If the Toureg is anything to go by, the steel suspended version is a much better drive. Air susp can be done poorly as well as good.

The Quadralift is cool but is just another thing that can break down. Plus I don't see a real need for it unless you have bad knees or take if off road IMO

There must be a reason why Mercedes Benz, and Porsche has air suspension on their automobile, and range rover, if its good enough for them, it is good enough for the north Americans

Re: WK2 Testdrive/Ordering Experience

My wife and I drove various models yesterday and found a few things slightly off from what we had expected. That said, we'll still definitely be getting one later this year.

First, the V6 in the Laredo 4x2 was no rocket, but perfectly okay even if the first couple of seconds off the line are a bit pokey; okay for 45-70 passing, too. However, the V6 in the 4x4 Overland is another matter, thanks to 400 extra pounds. But who wants a 4x2 Laredo?

Second, the exterior is pretty damn dull for the time-honored GC; indeed, the front looks downright stubby and snouty from the side (looks okay from the front, though). Any GC from 1993 through 2010 has more "Jeep character," but the 2011's exterior has a visible dose of Acura-type corporate blandness. Not terrible, but not Jeep-ballsy either.

Third, there's lots of stuff we don't want that comes packaged if we want to get other goodies. Granted, all makers pull this big-tent packaging off to some extent, but it's pretty extreme here. Who these days wants or needs built-in nav, for starters? And you have to get one of the pricier models for the radio to have an iPod input mini-jack (a 50-cent part at Radio Shack).

Finally, there are a few errors, inconsistencies and omissions in the Jeep build-your-own webpages. An interesting point, too, at http://www.jeep.com/en/2011/grand_ch.../wheels_tires/ where they state that the 20" tires, like are on the Overland, are run flats. If so, this is bad news as, judging from the run-flats on the BMW X5, these are expensive, rough riding, require specialized mounting equipment, and you have nearly no choice among tires when time comes to replace. Hopefully this is just another website error.

Re: WK2 Testdrive/Ordering Experience

Why does so many people are so old fashioned, they still are use to solid axle rough ride,no nav,a bunch of primitive features in north American vehicle, and wonder why so many American is buying foreign import vehicle with the latest technology, and quality ride and comfort, because too many of them are a bunch of cheap skate that is not willing to pay extra $ for 21 st century technology, but they expect north American to make current quality vehicle to compete with the import, and keep jobs in North America.
The new jeep is a great looking jeep, big beefy and macho with current technology,i will be buying a new one when they implement the u connect guardian on the new jeeps,North America cannot continue to make primitive vehicle by not implementing the latest technology on their vehicle ad expect to compete with the imports, just to please a few cheap skates,it ain't
gonna work.

Me. MyGig was a $750 option when I bought my WK - that's a bargain for an infotainment system. If you drive in a congested area, the Sirius traffic can be a huge timesaver.

I love that it is standard on limited and overland. Nav I great especially when you are out of town with the fam looking for a particular restaurant.

And Lingohocken, it is nice to have Nav here in backwards Wrightstown. I gotta drive 15 mins just to find a Wawa.

Re: WK2 Testdrive/Ordering Experience

Barho, Linda at the old deli is going to smack you good for that Wawa comment.

As you may already know from the school of lost knocks, many navs (inboard or outboard) don't work properly for certain roads in ye olde secreted Wrightstown. But the point is that portable nav systems and nav apps for the iPhone and other phones make inboard nav systems about as up-to-date as ye olde built-in carphones that were superseded by carry-around cellphones. Most inboard navs can't even be programmed on the fly.

If folks want an inboard nav system, three cheers. But I feel it's clunky and overpriced, given the alternatives, so I'd much prefer a pocket nav. Problem is, Jeep doesn't allow cranky buyers like me to make a choice.

BTW, Barho, Lansdale Jeep in Montgomeryville has the most 2011 GCs around here, although they are selling so fast that who knows what they have at the moment. Lansdale also is the only nearby Jeep dealer that gets a checkmark in Consumers Checkbook. Have you tried Flemington Jeep, cuz I can't find out a thing about them.

No, its just another item that people can use for status. It makes people go ooooh and ahhh and say, "look at what my car and do". Who need auto lights, power seats, auto windshield wipers, auto temp, etc. All of those items are not needed in a car. I just went from a fully loaded Lincoln that has all of the doo-daads to a somewhat equipped Jeep and I don't miss the Lincoln one bit. Maybe I just like my cars to be simple
