Re: WK2 top speed

why in the hell would you want to go that fast in an SUV that's scratching at 5000lbs? that's pretty stupid if you ask me...

Everyone's different, and uses their vehicles differently, and the US isn't the centre of the known universe

Therefore, some peeps might want to go faster? I dunno?

Re: WK2 top speed

Food for thought...We all know that speed limits have remained largely unchanged since the 80's right? Now consider a vehicle doing 70 mph in the 80's versus a modern vehicle at 110. Even considering the physics, in which one would you rather be?

location has nothing to do with it... just the vehicle itself. I used to own a 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI and it saw 100mph practically daily.. as did my turbocharged 2004 Mustang GT.. but those were performance oriented vehicles with sport-tuned suspension, a low center of gravity, very strong braking systems and quite obviously a lot less weight. my WK and my WJ have never once exceeded 80 mph because I know that's far from what those vehicles are made to do.

sure the new vehicles have more safety features to protect the driver, but that doesn't mean a damn thing to an unsuspecting motorist that pulls into your lane not realizing how fast you're going. the brakes won't be nearly as effective on a vehicle of such weight, and if you were to swerve, well that would probably be the end of your truck and maybe even you.

I'm guessing you also think street racing kills vans full of babies.

Clear roads, with no one on them I've gotten my car up to 155. Don't see a problem going that fast if your car can take it and there's no one on the roads.

I've seen the OPs jeep in action and I must say being limited at 110mph and having 8 cylinders, Jeep might as well put a 4banger in it. No wonder Chrysler is so far behind GM and Ford.

Re: WK2 top speed

Got my 06 GC SRT up to 140 once.

But after that, I vowed never again to push those types of speeds in any vehicle. Just too dangerous.

110 in an SUV not designed to go those speeds, is plenty fast IMO.

Not designed to go that fast? Why the hell do you put a 5.7 370hp engine in a car and say it shouldn't be pushed over 100? Just by looking at the 5.7 it's pretty damn low for an SUV..... As long as you got tires rated for the speeds I don't see a problem.

IMO, no suv is designed to go those speeds. The SRT is a bit different with Brembos, lowering, upgraded suspension/sway bars, performance tires, etc, etc, etc.

So, it he OP were to get performance tires and brembos you think it'd be alright to get over 110?

I got brembos on my car and I'll tell you over 110 I'm not jamming the brakes at all. You could have any brakes, you're not stopping in 200ft if you're going 150mph. Brakes have nothing to do with triple digit speeds. If the road is clear, there's -nothing- to worry about. Any car caught going 150, even a vette, and hits a bump is going to be in trouble.

I think many people have the illusion that if a car is low it's immune from damages at high speed. We're not talking about 250mph here, we're talking over 110, meaning 130~. You're not gonna get enough air under you at 130 to fly off.
