Wk2 towing a 30 foot boat

A great article showing the WK2 towing a 30 foot sailboat from RI to Chicago. Just felt the need to share.

Re: Wk2 towing a 30 foot boat

I doesn't look like the air sus is handling the tongue weight, but then again it is prob too much.

I wonder what the weight of the setup is.

Boat is 4,990 and say 1500ish for the trailer. I race many of these boats and they try to make it sound like most SUVs can tow them. The 30 foots with the lifting keel no issue but some of those with keels that don't lift are pushing it

Yea, that kind of weight really requires a WDH to tow safely, but you can't use them with surge/inertial braking systems. I bet that JGC was feeling really light in the front-end!

Re: Wk2 towing a 30 foot boat

In Australia, its common to tow those kind of weights behind "SUV's". We do however have stricter laws on trailer brakes. Eg. In my state anything over 1600kg needs brakes on all axles, anything over 2000kg needs a dedicated break away system, no inertia brakes allowed either.

We dont normally have to deal with snow though.

The jeep should have load levelling suspension if fitted with the class IV tow pack, it shouldn't be sagging that much? Too much ball weight maybe.

There is no mention of air suspension or Overland or Summit trim in the article. So it could be a Limited model with conventional suspension.

Probably not the best setup. I wouldn't tow something that big with a Grand Cherokee.
