WK2 Trim and Option Questions

I'm sure this has been discussed, but I can't find a definative answer anywhere.

I want to get a new model Grand Cherokee, but can't figure out the best way to get all the options I need...

Everyone talks about the problems with the Quadralift, and I don't really want to deal with it. Nor do I need it. However, I do love the saddle interior and overland grille. I also absolutely need the towing package, offroad package, upgraded stereo/nav, and panoramic sunroof. Also, I am leaning towards the V6 to the V8. Adaptive cruise control is fine, but the blind spot detection thing seems annoying...

So basically these are my options:

1. Order Limited, and deal without the saddle interior and overland grille.
2. Order Overland Summit and deal with Quadralift

Is that basically my options?

Has anyone purchased the limited and swapped out (or had the dealer) upgrade to the overland grille?

Also... sort of confused:

1. Is the Overland Grille different than the Overland Summit Grille?
2. If you get the offroad package on the overland (or summit), you have to get the 18" wheels, which are exactly the same as the ones on the limited correct?

No brainer - order the Summit and "deal" with Quadra-Lift. You say you need the off-road package? You might appreciate QL's ability to raise the chassis up to two-different "off-road" levels.

Also - remember that forums skew a bit toward the "problem reporting" side - so don't assume everyone is having problems with Quadra-lift. Now I will readily admit that 6 weeks with a new Summit hardly qualifies as a long-term test, but so far I've been delighted with it.

My "peace of mind" comes from buying the Chrysler Lifetime Max Care warranty. If in the future I have QL issues, I'm out no more than $100 the first time to get the system fixed and no deductible if the same part breaks again.

As for the blind spot detection - I believe you can set it to be quiet (just the visual triangles on your mirrors). For me, I don't find the default setting annoying at all and appreciate the extra safety check.

V6 vs. V8 ... this seems to be a very personal choice. I tested the V6 before buying and made sure it could handle all I need. I've been very happy with it - but I don't tow. You mentioned that you need the towing package, so unless you are just towing a smallish trailer you may want to go with the Hemi.

The Summit grill is the one with the cross-hatch behind the vertical bars also chromed. Some people who don't have Summits have ordered it and swapped it onto their regular Overland.

One issue with the Summit is that it comes in fewer color choices - although if you want Rugged Brown (like me) then you have to order a Summit.

One more thought - If you like Saddle, you get more of it with the Overland Summit as the dashboard gets the Saddle treatment too.

Whatever you end up doing, be prepared to enjoy a great new Jeep Grand Cherokee!

The summit is a couple thousand $$ premium over an equivalently optioned overland. In return, you get saddle on the dash, chrome fog light trim, polished wheels, and chrome egg crate grill inserts vs the black egg crate. There is a badge somewhere too. If you must have the saddle dash, you have to go Summit. If you like the chrome inserts or fogs you can install them.

The 18 inch wheels are the same as the Limited.

An Overland with maxicare extended warranty cost you about the same as a Summit without the warrantee... but if you like the Summit style and colors, go for it, nothing wrong with that.

Thanks for the info, that helps. Sounds like you don't get much over the regular overland with the summit. Especially since I will have the offroad package which downgrades the wheels anyways. I'll keep that in mind.

How much is this MAXICARE WARRANTY you guy mention? and is there fine print BS?

It depends on which deductible you choose. Choices are $0, $50, or $100 per service issue. The $50 was the right price point for me. Everybody else seems to pick the $100.

And, as with everything else at the dealership, the price is negotiable.

If you "absolutely need" the towing package, I'd think you'd want the V8, too. And if you absolutely need the offroad package, then maybe you also need to the Quadralift, too.

Not everyone who needs the towing package needs the V8...I plan on towing a pop-up camper so I really don't need 7000 lb towing capacity, and since the Jeep is used as a daily commuter the better gas mileage for the V6 (and not having to put in higher octane gas) was worth only having a 5000 lb towing capacity. If I had a shorter commute then I would have seriously considered the V8.

Can't speak for the Quadralift but if I were taking my Jeep offroad I'd want it to be properly equipped for it...

I have the Laredo X, and I swapped out my grille w/ the black verticle inserts for the black Overland grille, and it looks fantastic!

This is exactly my thoughts. I plan on towing a pop-up camper too, and these usually only go about 3,000 at max, usually less, around 1500. So the 5,000lb towing capacity is plenty for towing the camper on trips once every few months.

I figure if in several years, gas hits $6/gallon, that's about $100 per month savings V6 compared to the V8. It's worth it to me.

The Quadralift is nice, I just don't know if its worth all the problems. I like the idea of the offroading package for when I do some deep woods camping or hunting, but I don't go offroading every weekend or anything like that.

I'm still too confused to make a decision... 20" wheels vs. 18" wheels, offroad package or not, limited, overland, or summit, etc, etc.

Maybe I should just deal with it and wait til the CRD comes out in 2013. Then my mpg will be excellent and I don't have to worry about towing
