It is certainly slow compared to some previous models and some of the competition.

I still contend the operative question is not "Is it fast/quick?" but "Is it fast/quick enough?" That word "enough" makes all the difference. The V-6 is just fine for me, even if I end up looking at the taillights of the X5, RX 350, and LR4. So be it.

Re: WK2 VS LR4 and 4 Runner in Motor Trend

Looking at the spec sheet of the two, the Jeep has an almost 1 lb per HP advantage over the LR, with the LR having only a slightly shorter rear ratio. Obviously the trans in the LR is geared a bit better for the 0-60 run. Perhaps with the addition of the unannounced 8 speed trans, the Jeep can be geared to pull more strongly, yet still get even better mileage. Programming of all those ratios depending upon throttle application could be very interesting! We used to think 5 speeds were enough, and now we're looking to double the old 4 speed trans!

Re: WK2 VS LR4 and 4 Runner in Motor Trend

I agree, it can get out of it's own way....and I have not driven the v8 or v6 yet so I can't really talk (only going by the #'s).. See the thing is it doesnt matter because you did not buy the car to take a LR or RX off the line. You have the best GC yet!

I am totally jealous of WK2 owners as I think the vehicle is fawking sweet. Problem for me is I will have a hard time down-grading my performance for all of the features that aren't as important to me (I am a 2wd guy, ok ok I know go easy on me)

Now Omar you can take a long walk off a short bridge. Yes the BMW is horrible off-road (from what I have read, and with the 20's and body kit, etc)...BUT my parents just got a 2011 X5 with the sport package and the 8-speed tranny with the turbo-diesel. When they first told me I was bummed...but It has an amazing on-road ride, is poised and comfortable, and has a little pep in it's step. I have never liked the X5's, but I must say I would trade my GC for it, if offered, because it is better than my Jeep (slower yes, but fit and finish wise it is in a whole nuther world). The wheels are amazing, great stance, comfy interior and a lot of cool electronic features. It is a perfect car for my Mom! Now if I had to pay for it I would buy my Jeep all day long and keep the $15-20K in my pocket! I would smoke it off the line, the GC feels smaller and more nimble...and I can do a lot of the work/mods myself!
why u picking on me ???

I didn't say any wrong phucking word in what I said except for the fact that the BMW X5 is not known for it's off road capabilities so walk with on the short bridge fool

See, I'm upgrading from a Patriot- with the 2.4L engine, CVT, and AWD system, the thing is only going to break 10 seconds to 60 if I mount a rocket engine in the cargo area. So my perspective is a bit different. I've adjusted how I drive to the modest acceleration capabilities of this vehicle, so even the Pentastar feels like a sports car.

^^ junk? might be a little harsh...I felt the same way till I got in the 2011. Have you been in the new one yet?

Looking at Milous' listing of the package specs, it seems the Hemi gets a 3.09 axle when the Off Road group is added, down from the listed 3.47 axle of the MT spec sheet. So, this really shows what the difference is, with the LR having a 3.54 axle. I wonder if an order can be placed to keep the 3.47 even with the Off Road package??? No axle ratio is specified in the Trailer Tow groups.

Re: WK2 VS LR4 and 4 Runner in Motor Trend

Mario the X5 is far from junk. I've had the 4.8 for 3 years... no problems. Fit, finish, and driving dynamics are superb. If they were priced equally to the WK2, the decision would be easy... however they are not... and the value equation falls heavily in the Jeeps favor. It is a lot of SUV for the money... So I have decided to order one.

I guess to put it simply just because you cannot afford something doesn't make it junk...
I think the issue here has more to do with envy then actual first hand experience.

To prove my point I will admit I would much rather have a Range Rover Supercharged then an Overland... but at the moment I don't have the extra 60k.

Re: WK2 VS LR4 and 4 Runner in Motor Trend

^^ Well put! Stick it to Mario HAHA

Very true...but I really don't know if I would even buy a RR SC Sport over my Jeep. I don't have to worry about where I park it, maintenance is super simple in comparison, and for modding you can't really compare the two because the mods for any RR are 2-3X as much as anything for our Jeeps. I guess what I am saying is I am happy

And I am just giving you ish Oms...you know I love you in the homo way

You can have a very bad car and leave X5, RX350, LR4 checking out your taillights by driving aggressively ... until the speed tickets will eventually "tame" your driving habits. It will be a different story if you live in Germany and have no speed limit on highways ... at that point 240 km/hr and excellent acceleration might be requirement (at that point audi or bmw are the only real choice) ... the rest is just a perception and everyone is entitled to their own opinion and choose the car that suits them best ... GC V6 is all I need ... unless I decide to tow my home ...

Re: WK2 VS LR4 and 4 Runner in Motor Trend

Ah for the perfect car:
  • Crawl rocks with the best
  • 0-60 under 4 sec
  • Hang 2 Gs in a turn
  • Carry 7 people and their gear in a luxury entertainment room.
  • 30 mpg.
But I digress ………..

I would buy neither a Jeep nor a Land Rover if it weren’t for the off-road/snow capabilities. Off-road or in the snow, when would I need max power (advantage LR)? Max torque may come in handy when towing up a steep incline (advantage GC). Wider tires on a lighter car would result in lower footprint pressure in the mud and sand (advantage GC). A lighter vehicle would mandate less tong weight/total towing capacity (advantage LR). The relative advantages of one over the other are minor. I guess I’m saying they are essentially equivalent cars, except for price and looks and that nails it in favor of the GC.

Now, if you’re a social climber and have to show how rich you are, the choice would be the LR. But I digress again ….
