Re: Wondering if I should of just of gotten the 4x4

That's a rare find... a 4X2 in WA state. While your new rig is certainly capable, a 4X4 might have been suited better for you if you plan on gong up to Snoqualmie/ Stevens pass for some snowboarding. From what I remember if it's chains required up in the pass, a 4X4 with snow / all terrain tires is legal during those times.

I also think a fulltime 4X4 helps in the Western WA rains. Try and cross the 520 bridge while pouring down rain. With puddles everywhere, traction is king.

..but I would imagine a 4X2 would seem more zippy

Re: Wondering if I should of just of gotten the 4x4

I live in Edmonds Washington and have had my 13' JGC up the pass a lot and you really would have been better off with the 4x4/AWD JGC. I've taken two wheel drive trucks up the pass, but had put 500lbs of sand in the back and spent big bucks on tires and was alright. But, I don't know if you feel like loading up your JGC with 500lbs of sand.

If you can swap without taking a big hit, why not? But don't break the bank to do it.

Bill, you're being.....unusually diplomatic. If I lived in Miami Beach I'd buy a 4x4 Jeep or I'd buy something other than a Jeep.

Did you note the time of my post? It was just a few minutes before leaving in my 4x4 Jeep and steering it to the beach. That always has a soothing effect on the brain.

Re: Wondering if I should of just of gotten the 4x4

Before I bought my GC, I was talking to a woman who had a 2wd Compass, or Patriot or something. She said she really wanted a GC, but didn't want to spend the money for 4wd since she would never need it.

Re: Wondering if I should of just of gotten the 4x4

I see this both ways... Personally I would get a 4x4 but if that doesn't work out for the OP, 2WD is not what it used to be in the Snow. I had an Envoy Denali for a fair bit... Had Michelin Latitudes (not the HP) and I barely ever used the 4WD, even in a foot of snow. Weight distribution, traction control etc, are so much better these days.

Back to my first point, I agree with all of you, I would and am getting a 4x4. However I do not believe the 2WD is a world ending apocalypse the way some of you make it out to be.

You are young, learning, and made a less than optimal choice.

Do not compound any minor error by throwing away hard earned dollars by making a bad trade now. They always say they offer a good trade and it is never true.

Other older folks with lots of money to spend might encourage you to trade. I do not.

Keep your jeep, learn your lesson, and view this as an opportunity to learn how to preserver and learn how to drive a rwd jeep in snow like the old guys did when they were young.

I wish most of my mistakes when I was younger were so small.

Re: Wondering if I should of just of gotten the 4x4

Not too familiar with conditions by you, but in upstate NY the roads are cleared right after a storm, and most guys are forced to run 2wd as there is not enough snow to slip the 4wd system on the road. Really a non issue unless you happen to have to go out in the dead middle of a snow storm with 12" of snow on the ground.

4x4 would be easier of course, but i agree it is not the end of the world. If you care enough to join a forum, and discuss it, then you are probably someone that cares enough to learn how to drive.

Now, if a couple of my friends asked my opinion i would tell them to buy something with the most amount of airbags in it, as no amount of 4x4 can help them.
