The family and I are moving from California to Ontario, and we have decided to do a cross country albeit with a couple of detours so we could visit Death Valley and Grand Canyon.
We are towing a small U-haul sports trailer to make more room for the cat and dog inside the Jeep. Millage hasn't been so good thus far because of all the mountain driving and the extra 1200 lb of the trailer plus the Thule rack. I expect this to improve as we move onto more flat terrain.
The scariest part so far has been brake overheating at the end of Sonora Pass in the Sierra Nevada. The brakes almost stopped responding and gosh there was a lot of smoke coming from them. We had to stop for 15 min to let them cool off. I typically use manual shift but I guess I was too distracted with the scenery.
The brakes no longer feel as responsive as at the beginning of the trip so I guess they are due for an early retirement.
I will update if anything else out of the ordinary happens.
On another note, I have seen lots of WK2's and Durangos at the more touristic spots. Most of them must be rentals because they look like plain vanilla Laredos and Crews, but I've seen a few Limiteds and Overlands as well.
