Yellow spray foam in door jam

I just bought a brand new 2015 Grand Cherokee overland. I've only owned her for a week; today I noticed a bunch of yellow "expanding type foam" in the door jam by the bottom hinge and in the rocker panel. This is on the passenger side. I didn't notice it on the driver side. It looks like over-spray from some kind of foam application.

Is the foam standard? Does anyone else have this messy foam sprayed around the hinge area? This foam is now hard, exactly like "great stuff expanding foam". Not sure what the story is and looking for some feedback.

Thanks!

Brian.

Re: Yellow expanding foam in door jam??!

They shoot into the rockers, sound deadening and breeding ground for iron worms.

There is a youtube video at Jefferson north showing the construction and at one station they flood those area with the foam.

I removed the sill plates and underneath a bunch of plugs and snaked my wand for my Fluid Films to saturate the area with the fluid film to prevent rust.

Maybe post in the regular Jeep section too. This is the SRT section. I haven't seen the foam you mention in an SRT.

Re: Yellow expanding foam in door jam??!

The foam is in fact used for sound deadening, but you should NOT be able to see it without taking things apart. The foam is inserted very early in the assembly process.

Do you have any pictures?

That just looks like someone was sloppy...and you should be able to scrape it off carefully. (Use a plastic scraper for this)

Re: Yellow spray foam in door jam

FWIW, it's in my '15 GC too (both sides). I'm thinking sound deadening, but I hope that "long term" the stuff doesn't absorb water, and create a rust problem.

Probably not an issue as I believe they even did this kind of thing back in the 05-10 WK's so its certainly not a new process.

Re: Yellow spray foam in door jam

My '15 High Altitude that I got two weeks ago had a little bit of this on the drivers side door jam. I just scraped it off with my fingernail. No prob. It was about the size of a 50 cent piece.

Re: Yellow spray foam in door jam

I agree... I was pretty sure it wasn't a issue but I was just really shocked at the messy job. Especially after paying a lot of money for a brand new Overland. Easy to clean up but just a bush-league mistake on Jeep's part during assembly.
