Re: Your opinion of Hill Descent Control?

Uphill is not automatic? At least not in my 2014 where I push the button on the Selec-Terrain that shows at level. ?? Nor did I ever find it in the uconnect menus's.

On my 2014 Overland Hill Ascent and Decent is controlled via the same HARD button and then selec-speed via the paddle shifters.

Having said as much, I went off roading in mine with only 1200 miles on it, stuff that no one in their right mind would do to a 50k + vehicle while it was brand new, because I wanted to TEST the hype of this 4x4 system..... Everything worked flawlessly and surprised the ever living piss out of me.... having said as much, I now have rocker panel damage, which luckily is just the fiberglass trim piece, and my skid plates now have skids in them....... Had to break it in somehow....

On mine, I wasn't facing uphill, I used the hard button, and it creeped toward the hill and then started its ascent, by itself... And I was pretty sure the box in uconnect is still "start" assist which is different. That's when you park facing uphill on a steep hill like in some towns, "San Francisco, Ca, Portland, Me, Etc".

Normally what can happen in THAT situation, is if your foot is not on the break you can roll backwards, and sometimes put the transmission in a bind. That hill start assist, helps by applying the brakes for you to limit the roll back and not put the transmission in a bind to allow a seamless travel up the hill.....

Of course I could be wrong, but that is what I read in the book?? LOL

You are correct. Of course you cheated by actually reading the manual instead of guessing.

The hill assist is also for when you're stopped at a light or in traffic on an incline. It has nothing to do with the "select speed", also called ascent/descent control which has no setting on the screen.

I have hill assist turned off, only because when I learned to drive I was taught to use the brake in those situation. On a standard tranny, left foot on the clutch, right toe on the gas and right heal on the brake. With an auto, just use two feet. After so many years it's a reflex action when on a hill.

Re: Your opinion of Hill Descent Control?

HDC worked beautifully for me on a very steep and rocky grade a few months ago. Loved it.

As far as HAC, I have not been able to get this to work at all, and for a while I was thinking that I dreamed it up.
