ZF-8 fluid change - good for life?

Coming up on 10K and looking at the maintenance schedule. Most of the stuff starts at 30K (transfer case, diffs, airfilter), belts and PCV at 60K, spark plugs at 100K.

Tranny fluid though ...
HP45 - 8 Speed
(2014-up model years) (Note: available with 3.6 engines only)
8.98 qts. (8.5L) (dry fill) Automatic Transmission Fluid MoparŪ ZF 8&9 Speed ATF (p/n 68157995AA), Shell L12108

(fill for life)

From: http://www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_maintenance.htm
What does that mean? What is "dry fill"?

Dry fill is for a new/rebuilt unit that hasn't had fluid in it yet. The trans fluid is supposed to be a lifetime fill but I don't really think that's a great idea for very long term dependability. It's a pain to change since there's no dipstick; it drains and fills more like a transfer case than a transmission.

Re: ZF-8 fluid change - good for life?

A dry fill is the first filling in a new or rebuilt transmission. Since the oil is a lifetime fill, a wet fill spec isn't needed.
