Code P0748 came up "Pressure Control Solenoid". Refers to trans shifting: circuit T22 (A) or circuit K54 (B). Do I look for the solenoid (top of trans)? Do I look for a bad connection?

Re: 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0

Its almost always the governor pressure solenoid itself. Best is to change it together with the governor pressure sensor. They are both inside of the transmission and the pan must be lowered.

Thanks for your help. I'll open it up and get it done in a week or so. Shifting is ok but check engine light comes on.

Re: 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0

If the governor pressure solenoid or its sensor doesn´t work well, you can end up with a too low line pressure, which can cause slipping of the clutches/bands. This will increase the wear and in worse cases could burn the clutch/band.

Re: 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0

Finally got to it. I changed the pressure sensor and the pressure solenoid but code keeps coming back. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

Re: 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0

How was the fluid looking/smelling?
Did you reset the code after the repair? Does it shift and drive normal?

Fluid is in good shape. Yes, I reset the code several times. I adjusted the bands and it shifts very well. Could I have failed to seat the (vertical) solenoid properly inside the transmission?

Re: 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0

Since its shifts ok, it seems that the pressure regulating solenoid works fine. There could be a wire problem on the pressure sensor or a bad connection somewhere. Check the connectors on the PCM for moisture and/or corrosion first. If ok, it probably be time to do a continuity check of the wires from the PCM to the transmission and check if the resistance of each wire is ok.
