2014 Grand Cherokee automatic high beams

My automatic high beams are not working or are not on. Manual high beams works fine. How do I turn on the auto high beams feature?

Bill

Hey Bill,
The headlights have to be switched to 'auto'. So the dial must be all the way to the left.

I don't think that works the beams - rather this turns the lights on or off based on need.

It's in the settings on the Uconnect head unit in my Heep. You enable/disable the auto high beam function in Settings

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee automatic high beams

from pg. 166 of the owners manual:

Automatic High Beam — If Equipped
The automatic high beam system provides increased
forward lighting at night by automating high beam
control through the use of a digital camera mounted on
the inside rearview mirror. This camera detects vehicle
specific light and automatically switches from high
beams to low beams until the approaching vehicle is out
of view.
NOTE:
• If the windshield or automatic high beam mirror is
replaced, the automatic high beam mirror must be
re-aimed to ensure proper performance. See your local
authorized dealer.
• Broken, muddy, or obstructed headlights and taillights
of vehicles in the field of view will cause headlights to
remain on longer (closer to the vehicle). Also, dirt, film,
and other obstructions (sticker, toll box, etc.) on the
windshield or camera lens will cause the system to
function improperly.
To Activate
1. Enable the Automatic High Beams through the
Uconnect® system screen. Refer to “Customer- Programmable
Features — Uconnect® Access 8.4 Settings
” in “Understanding Your Instrument Panel” for further
information.
2. Turn the headlight switch to the AUTO headlight
position.
3. Push the multifunction lever away from you (toward
front of vehicle) to engage the high beam mode.
NOTE: This system will not activate until the vehicle is
at or above 20 mph (32 km/h).
To Deactivate
1. Pull the multifunction lever toward you (or rearward
in car) to manually deactivate the system (normal
operation of low beams).
2. Push back on the multifunction lever once again to
reactivate the system.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee automatic high beams

I have had my 2014 JGC for about 3.5 years. During that time, I have had 6 different recalls that needed to be addressed. My latest issue (not an official recall) is that my auto high beams stopped working. First the auto feature stopped, then shortly thereafter, I could not turn them on manually.

I spent 4 hours in a dealership on afternoon and the only thing they could come up with is that my toll tag was blocking the camera. My toll tag has been in the same place for the last 3.5 years without issue. After they ran a normal update, it did allow for manual function of the high beams, but I miss the auto feature.

I have read several threads speaking about this particular issue, but no one ever stated what the resolution was.

To be clear, UConnect indicates the option is turned ON. This is either an electronic issue or the camera has stopped working. The trick is finding a dealership that knows how to figure out which it is.

Maybe it is time for a 2017 JGC.

It's one of my favorite features. The sensors are located around the rear-view mirror. There's a sensor on the back of the mirror, and other sensors are glued to the windshield underneath a plastic cover.
