Ac ?

08 wk hemi with 32k miles on it. Air blew ice cold one day then hot the next. First thought was blend door even tho same temp on both sides...the gear was cracked so I replaced it but still outside temp air. It's got freon and holds a vacuum just fine...I'm stumped!?

Yes. Clutch engages and disengage with the switch on/off. Weird thing is electric fan comes on as soon as you turn it on...I know that's supposed to but it never shuts off until you kill the engine. Even on a cold start first thing in the morning

Re: Ac ?

Doesnt your hemi equiped jeep come with the hydraulic cooling fan? This fan always runs when the engine is on, but at about 500 rpm. Only when the engine becomes too hot or when AC requires, the fan will ramp up its speed, as commanded by the PCM. So now it can be that the PCM receives a wrong sensor input and for that reason already ramped up the fan speed. A faulty AC pressure transducer for example, or even too much charge.

Makes sense...just never could hear it before. I'll try charging again after a good vacuum but that problem didn't start until it was blowing hot after a few days.

Re: Ac ?

When the fan "idles" at 500rpm, you almost dont hear it. But it becomes like a 747 during take off when its at full speed.
If you look at the AC compressor, does the clutch cycle in 10-20 second steps, or does it cycle on for a short time and off for a long period?

Yes that's what the fan is doing. I just never noticed it's always on.
The compressor once kicked on the clutch is always engaged it doesn't cycle off now like it's supposed to

Re: Ac ?

So also when you switch manually the AC off, the compressor stays engaged? It runs now all the time, that is not good. The PCM should switch the clutch on and off depending on the AC pressure transducer signal. Did you check if the connector on this sensor is properly connected?

No. Sorry should have clarified. Clutch is,always engaged with ac turned on. When you switch ac off the clutch disengages but the cooling fan stays going a million miles an hour until you shut the engine off

Re: Ac ?

Ah, ok.
So for some reason the PCM is not cycling the clutch. Ifchecking the freon charge doesnt help, my bet would be on the pressure transducer. Did you check the connector?

I've looked over all the wiring and connectors I can see..will check again. For the 40 bucks it costs it's worth a shot just replacing the transducer yeah?
