The compressor should stay on for a longer period. Best would be to measure the pressures at both ports, to be better able to tell what can be the problem.
Also with the engine cold, there is no cold air from the outlets?
Thanks for getting back with me. I checked pressure on the low side after driving the Jeep about a half hour with the air on. The gage was in the green witch is good and then jump into the red witch is danger zone. The needle would go back and forth. One line was so hot that you could barely touch it. The other line was very worm. I timed the clutch on the compresser and it kicks in for 4 seconds and kicks off every time. Thank you for trying to help me.
I will get on the Jeep project Saturday 7/2/2016. Working alot of hours. I will post the pressure readings on the low and high side. I was told around 35 pounds on the low side. Thanks for all your help so far. I relly appreciate all the help.
I checked the low pressure side . My gage showed 25 lbs. I have not checked the high side yet. Have to buy a adapter for that fitting.I drove the Jeep for a half hour with the air on high when I got home and checked the pressure.
Careful messing with the high side. Wear heavy gloves as you connect and disconnect the fittings.
? Yours doesn't have an old fashioned pressure limit switch at the condensor IIRC.
But it does have a sensor there that will turn the compressor off if it starts misbehaving.
If you have a trusted AC shop that knows your model, might be worth pinging them.
Some dealers are OK, but for AC stuff I've found the independent specialists tend to be aware of more quirks.
Thanks everyone for helping me out. Much appreciated. I do know such a person. I will give him a ping to see if he could help me out. I will let everyone know how it turns out.
25psi low side with the compressor running is OK-ish.. Need to see both the lo and hi side with the compressor running to start to diagnose.. your AC shop guy can do this correctly..
Very interesting.. looks like the WJ runs at a higher evap temperature than the usual Chrysler AC..
At any rate, that low-side pressure is not far enough off to be a problem (I think) .. low pressure cutout should be around 20PSI..
The high-side pressure will be interesting to see.. wonder if you're getting a high-pressure cutout..
What exactly happens when you start with the engine running and A/C off, then turn on the A/C? does the compressor run for a while before going into the 4-second cycle, or does it immediately start the dance?
Are you testing with the blower on high and the windows open?
