Added remote garage door button to centre console

Hi from Australia

I was sick of having my remote for the garage door lying around the centre console. Sometimes I would be fumbling around to try and find it so I decided to add a button to the centre console. Did not take long, about an hour, works perfectly and Im very happy with it.

Nice! I want to do this mod too. I hate having my clunky remote hanging on the visor all the time.

Any chance of a write up on how you did it?

If you have the garage door opener your car will be in the garage not in the driveway.

If they want to have a party at your house, does not matter if they have the garage door opener or not, if they want to get into your house, they will.

Re: Added remote garage door button to centre console

So this is what my garage door button looks like. To wire it up i based it on this Youtube video.

Re: Added remote garage door button to centre console

Then you have to get the smallest push button you can find. It must be small as there is not much room behind the void button.

Re: Added remote garage door button to centre console

Then you need to pull the consol up. First from the center console glove box you just lift the entre centre consol. It will pop up very easy.

Re: Added remote garage door button to centre console

Then while reaching underneath the centre consol there are 4 silver buttons (see photo 1) on the dial cluster, push these in and the dial cluster will just pop up. Then from the underside you unclip the cable (green in photo 2). You are now holding the dial cluster in your hand free from the car.

Re: Added remote garage door button to centre console

You then remove the 4 silver screws (photo 1) and this will then allow you to pop out the peice of plastic void button where you will have your new button inserted (photo 2)

Re: Added remote garage door button to centre console

I do not have photos of the next step but with the void button out you drill a hole in the centre of it and insert the new small push button. Then insert it back into the centre dial cluster and run the wire out the bottom (photo 1), you do not have to drill a hole in the bottom as there is already a hole there. I then got some double sided tape and stuck the complete remote button underneath the dial cluster (photo 2).

Re: Added remote garage door button to centre console

Then it’s a matter of pushing it all back in to place and you are done.
No remote lying around for anyone to steal and no need to be fumbling around in the dark looking for the remote. Very clean professional finish.

If the battery goes flat just pop the centre console up and replace. To replace the battery it would take you less than one minute and no tools are required. I made my wire from the remote to the button long so it made it easy to replace the battery.
