Cannot programme a new key on WK Hemi - help please!!

So here's the challenge...2005 Hemi WK

Much like most it appears over the years, my remotes have stopped working and I am getting fed up with having to use the key to keep locking and un-locking the doors to get the alarm on and off etc.

So I bought an OEM unused replacement key from e-bay (lucky me!!) and have tried in vain tonight to reprogram it.

I have 2 working keys and am doing the whole one in / next one in thing - but it will not enter programming mode to allow me to put my new one in. Just sits there waiting for me to drive off......

Am I doing something wrong or is there something else wrong? DTC now shows P0513 which is incorrect Immobilizer Key but I suspect I have just set that putting the keys in and out like the hokey cokey!!

Any advice on what or where to look please....

Re: Cannot programme a new key - help please!!

Customer Key Programming
You can program new keys to the system if you have two
valid keys by doing the following:
1. Cut the additional Sentry Key Transponder blank(s) to
match the ignition switch lock cylinder key code.
2. Insert the first valid key into the ignition switch and
turn the ignition switch ON for at least 3 seconds but no
longer than 15 seconds. Turn the ignition switch OFF and
remove the first key.
3. Insert the second valid key and turn the ignition
switch ON within 15 seconds. After ten seconds, a chime
will sound and the SKIM indicator light will begin to
flash. Turn the ignition switch OFF and remove the
second key.
4. Insert a blank Sentry Key into the ignition switch and
turn the ignition switch ON within 60 seconds. After 10
seconds, a single chime will sound. The SKIM indicator
light will stop flashing, turn on for 3 seconds; then turn
off.
The new Sentry Key has been programmed. Repeat this
process to program up to a total of 8 keys.

Davy27 - that is exactly what I have been doing but on....

3. Insert the second valid key and turn the ignition
switch ON within 15 seconds. After ten seconds, a chime
will sound and the SKIM indicator light will begin to
flash. Turn the ignition switch OFF and remove the
second key.

This is the bit that does not happen - the chime and SKIM indicator light bit does not happen!!

Does it matter if the doors are open / closed / locked?

So when they say you need 2 working keys, they actually mean that the remotes need to be working too? Not just keys in the ignition?

Of my 2 keys, one does not work at all (I tried to solder it but without success) and the other worked once with a new battery then didn't after being left overnight - which I guess means that there is something draining the battery.

Am I stuck with a trip to the dealership to get the new one programmed and transmitter synced?

Yes unfortunately you need to visit your dealership or locksmith to program it. To do it by yourself you need 2 working keys.
