Exclamation DIY HardWire Radar Detector WK

I just want to help anyone interested in hardwiring their RD on their WK since I was having troubles finding a good guide.

You first want to have a RD. (obviously)

You then want to make sure you purchase
Direct Smart Cord

You then want to purchase a "add a circuit mini fuse"
Add A Circuit Mini Fuse

And then you want to grab (needle nose pliers, crimping tool, wire stripper tool, flash light (phone), Electrical tape if needed.)

I followed this guy exactly.

Step 1: Locate the fuse box (underneath the steering wheel)

Step 2: I took off that hinged door under the steering wheel by pulling up, and there is another removable hinged piece of plastic below the fuse box (above the foot rest next to the pedals) I removed those for extra room.

Step 3: Locate which fuse you want to tap into. I used the driver side cigarette lighter fuse spot, (there are three yellow fuses and it is the bottom one)

Thanks to @08Hemi for this pic and all of the help he gave me.

Step 4: Find the positive line of the direct cord (has a red line on it) and clip the end of it as the video states, and then put it into the add a circuit and crimp the end.

Step 5: Remove the 20amp fuse with pliers or your fingers gently and insert it in the lower slot on the add a circuit and then add the fuse that comes in the packaging into the front slot (I used the 3amp fuse).

Step 6: Plug the fuse back in the slot that the fuse was removed. Congrats you just hardwired your radar detector!

I cannot find the internal fuse box on the 2015... I have a 2015 GC Altitude. Looking to hardwire using the direct wire from Escort.

Any help?

The fuse box is in the engine bay on the WK2's. Nothing in the passenger compartment as far as I know. Best bet to hard wire may be to tap into a lighter socket in the center console.

I am trying to remove as little panels as possible. Do you have any photos or instructions?

Thanks!

The following link has instructions on tapping into the mirror. Looks easy enough.

Thanks, I have the SmartCord which I would like to place under the steering wheel. Do you know of any power taps under the steering wheel?
