1. Tape off a square around your emblem, then use papaer to cover from over spray.
2. Apply 3-4 even coats.
3. Remove tape and paper.
4. Grab a edge of the plastidip (No need to cut around the emblem the plastidip will stick to the emblem and peal off around it leaving your emblem black and paint untouched.)
Don't believe me? Try it yourself. When I first saw the stuff I didnt believe it either, but when we tried his we thought we would have to cut around each letter, but it came off as clean as it could without. plastidip is very durable when its on the vehicle, when you start to peal it, it becomes very brittle, the sudden change in angle allows it to tear easily. Your truck may be different so I guess keep a knife handy and take your time but its very simple and easy to do.
Just did mine today. They came out ok. I'll be doing them again soon. The front came out crappy so I got pissed and tore that one off. I kept the one in the rear though.
Yeah, I taped off a rectangle with newspaper and sprayed. Then once dry I carefully peeled. On the front I didn't let it dry long enough and it peeled too much off. I'll do it again tomorrow or something. I'm actually pretty happy with this!
Wow...so after you let it dry enough it didn't come off the emblems when you peeled it? HAHA I went nuts taping all around them when I did mine. Now I know what to do when i do them again
anybody happen to have an idea if this stuff needs to be applied at a certain temperature? Picked up a couple cans and am planning on doing my wheels, grill, side trim and badges. Problem is, while it's been sunny for the past week, the temps have been hovering in the mid to low 40's and are predicted to stay that way for the next 10 days. Guessing I should just allow for more drying time, but wasn't sure if anybody had any prior experience??
I don't think that it would be a problem, I did mine in the upper 80's so I can't say for sure about them 40's, but I'd think it would still hold fine! Goodluck to ya!
I did all of mine in the garage with a eden pure heater on all night so it was right about 70 for 18 hours.. I def would do it in a garage or wait till it warms up a bit. But I was doing my wheels also.
i cant believe how much time and effort i wasted tapping off my emblems, removing them putting them back on and then this link comes around and makes me feel like a total tool hahaha nice work dude +rep FO SHO
Don't worry about it. Its plastidip.... its peels like a banana. Nothing to worry about. When I did mine, i went in for lunch between coats, and left my cans out and all. The toddler next door came over to my garage and sprayed my plates while I was inside. After drying, it peeled right off.
