Re: How-To: Add a Sub/Amp to your Factory Stereo

Great thread, although you may want to correct one thing

If you are using a high-level connection or a LOC that does not have a built-in remote power wire or a wiring adapter that does not have a built-in remote power wire, you can simply piggyback off of one of the speaker output wires that runs from either the receiver or the factory amplifier to any of the speakers in the vehicle.

The speaker leads coming off the amplifier (and I believe also on the radio) are +6 VDC cannot be used with many amps that require a 12 VDC connection as the remote turn-on, unless you run a special relay that can utilize the 6 VDC signal to drive the 12 VDC 'source' (to the amp). Further, being it's a speaker lead (and ohm variance) I am not sure how well this would even work on many amps. I know some of the newer ones use the speaker lead(s) to use as a turn-on when you are doing the high level route, but many do not and if you are using LOC for a 5 VDC RCA and do not have high level inputs (like on my punch 150 for instance), you cannot use the speaker for anything other than to connect to an LOC for the sound signal and not a 12 V remote.
