Exclamation How to Direct Wire a Radar Detector?

I was wondering if there were any instructions on how to direct wire a RD with the escort live direct wire for a 2008 WK?

Also I was wondering how can I install the radar wire in my head liner and run it to the mirror?

I have both cigarette lighters used, would i still be able to tap into it for power? Or should i find another source so I do not blow a fuse.

Re: How to Direct Wire a Radar Detector?

Bump.. Anyone know? I read online that I would need to buy an "add a fuse" and connect that to a fuse that turns on and off with my car..

The add a circuit is your best bet. You would need to locate the fuse for the "cigar lighter" as that usually turns off with the ignition. As for running the wire in the headliner, just tuck the wire in where it meets the windshield. If it keeps falling out, put some tape or a small zip tie then tuck it back in.

Too many mods to list for each, so let's just say a lot was done over the years.

How would I tap into the cigarette lighter? I want to tap into the left one that goes on and off with the ignition?

Hardwire that Radar Detector

Here you go! Super simple and with the way I did mine you can run your mute button anytwere you want (also select flat or push button; I believe I got mine on Amazon)...it was probably my favorite for since it was $15 and worked perfectly for over 4 years!!!

Re: How to Direct Wire a Radar Detector?

Anyone know if there is an internal fuse box on the 2015 GC? Looking to hardwire my escort not to the mirror.

Re: How to Direct Wire a Radar Detector?

On my 2014 I used the trailer connector that is under the dash on the left side. It's down by the park break worked great.

Do you have a photo or wiring diagram of what you are referring to?

How to Direct Wire a Radar Detector?

I am looking for the part number for the connector but haven't found it yet. It is the brake controller harness connector. Here are a few pictures of my setup. I tied into the harness and ran in the seam of the dash over to the detector. Wires are completely out of site until it comes up to the detector. This video shows where the plug is located. The pigtail part came with my Jeep.
