Re: How to Join the WJ Quad Squad!

I joined the "Quad Mod Squad" today, wasn't real hard to do but I do wish I had went with the"3157 Socket" instead of the "1157 Socket" but sure helps light up the back of the jeep. Could get picture but I have the tail lights and brake lights wired to the "Quad Mod". Thanks for the posting of "How to" along with the pictures. One thing I did find out that the 1 1/8 hole saw was going to be to large for these sockets, so I went to the 1in instead. Had to do a little trimming with my Dremel tool but they fit snug now and don't flop around.

Thanks again for the post and pictures

Re: How to Join the WJ Quad Squad!

I used 2 3157 sockets/side, 1 for the usual quad mod, and 1 for the signal receptacle. I used a dremel to cut out the signal receptacle to accept the 3157 socket I had and siliconed it in. Cut the wire at the harness for the turn signal and wired it to the bright side of the 2 new 3157 sockets. Wired all the low filaments to the running lights, and the brake stayed normal. I had it so all 6 flashed, braked and had running lights using a trailer module but the module wasnt heavy duty enough and started to smoke. It was cool with all 6 flashing and whatnot. Now there is a lot more to my particular setup but that should work for anyone I think.

Re: How to Join the WJ Quad Squad!

I made a washer for thickness out of some abs to keep thickness between the housing and the base of the socket and you'll see why if you attempt this. I'd show you the inside the housing, but the socket is in place now until the the bulb burns out... I just went to get some pics but apparently I had too many beers during the project and for some reason, it appears I've put the washer on the socket and then the bulb and then put silicon on the washer and glued it to the housing! So anyway, I believe I used the dremel to grind the appropriate slots for the socket to lock into in the housing because I think they're diiferent than the stock sockets? I did this about 7 months ago and cant remember all the details. I also had to shave a bit from the socket where it fits into the sleeve as well. It looks (from what I can see when I pry up the socket) that had I put slots on the washer, it would have been able to screw out the socket. Hopefully it makes sense and I regret not taking more pics during the install, never planned on sharing.
