Re: HOW TO: Paint chrome trim

Great write-up!

I am going to tackle this in the next 2 weeks. I have ordered paint and clear coat. Still need primers.

Is any sanding needed after the etching primer? After sanding the sandable primer, do you clean again with the wax and grease remover? (using a microfiber cloth?)

I am using the 2 part auto clear (the one with the button on the bottom that you press to activate). Any idea how long it needs to cure before putting on the Jeep again? I don't want to do it too early and get fingerprints and such in the clear coat trying to press the trim back on.

Re: HOW TO: Paint chrome trim

I just got the trim off and all the gray foam strips around the edges came off. How important are those and will the trim rattle without them?

The grey foam is actually the double sided tape that is used to hold the trim to the car.

Re: HOW TO: Paint chrome trim

Has anybody painted chrome mirror caps with this method? I really want to color match my mirrors to Granite Crystal.
