Keyless Entry Programming

The '01 XJ I just bought is set up for keyless but the previous owner didn't have a remote. Can I program it myself or is this a dealer only job. They told me $50 to program plus $90 for the remote. I can most likely get replacements from ebay for less, then it's only a $50 program charge....TIA

Re: Keyless Entry Programming

I know the WJ have to be done by a dealer or locksmith. I got a new key FOB and key for mine at a local locksmith who has a place here in a mall. He does all of it and was half the price of the dealerships around here. You can also get the remotes and keys on line cheaper and have them programed. Check here for prices. They were about the cheapest I found.
