need suggestions on a 3.0 Diesel

Hi There

I have a question and want to see if anyone can help. I bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 3.0 L Diesel it seems that they have put an aftermarket exhaust and it seems that the catalytic converter has been open I'm assuming to take the filter out. the problem is that when its in idle and when I decelerate it smokes its a white smoke and it smells a lot like un-burn diesel I changed burner that goes right before the catalytic converter and its still doing it I was thinking it just needs a new catalytic converter any suggestions on what can I do to stop this smoke?
