So I have my '87 YJ that has one fender (front drivers side) that looks to have no clear coat left and has some surface rust in different spots. My plan of action is to grind it down and use a cutting wheel to cut out all rust if there are holes. I believe it has became more than just surface rust. Eventually I am replacing the fenders with tube fenders so I'm considering being "that guy" and bondo'ing the hole (if there is in facet a hole) with the fiber stand bondo. Once that is completed I will put multiple coats of primer, wet sanding between coats, then finishing with a couple coats of rattle can automotive paint and a shot of clear coat over top. As I said, this IS NOT
a professional fix by any means and the fender will be replaced in full eventually but I want to Band-Aid the problem for now!
Also, I am wanting to put a rust preventive paint/coat on the frame. Any suggestions? Will the underbody spray work or will it just be a cover up? Is POR 15 my only hope? It's not rusted bad at all I just want to keep it that way!
Any input or ideas? What type of wheel should I use in the grinding process? All input is welcome!
