towing package install

Can a towing package be installed on a 2014 grand cherokee after purchasing without? Looking at pulling a trailer with total weight of 3500 lbs. but the trailer tongue weight is 390 lbs. which according to the owners manual is exceeding the basic weight loads.

I checked this out on the 2011 GC I have. The harness is already on mine, but you'd have to check for your model. Installing a trailer hitch is easy. If you go to etrailer.com you can see several installation examples.

I have a '14 JGC that did not come with the tow package but had one installed after the fact at UHaul. The lights would not work on the trailer when I hooked it up and I found out that you need to have it flashed to activate the trailer hitch lights. I had to pay $99 for the dealer to hook it up to the computer and flash it to activate the hitch. Crazy but something for you to keep in mind.
