Strongly agree. I don't want it back even if I lose money on the deal.

Tracking one's driving habits is an intrusion of privacy. Are you sure you want their nose in your business? While it may save you a few bucks now it can just as easily bite you in the rear.

I hope people don't give in to this. I feel like they are just trying to condition us into accepting these tracking devices. I recently had to change home owners insurance companies because I wouldn't allow them to photograph the inside of my house. I felt like it was a huge intrusion of privacy.

Re: Would you put a tracker in your car?

i've got a delphi connect that i use to get a wifi hotspot in the wifes minivan for road trips.

it has all those tracking sort of capabilities. Just playing around i set it to text me when the car goes over x speed or when it leaves the house. It is very accurate- it texts me the second my wife got to the end of the block and anytime either of us hit the gas a little hard on the interstate. After playing a while it lost the wow factor and was just annoying.

The way I drive i wouldn't want my carrier to be able to say to me - "for 28 minutes yesterday you were driving over the speed limit." But if you drive like an old lady then maybe it's not so bad.

I drive very little as I travel extensively for work. I did the snapshot and saved the full 30%. It's doesn't track where you go it just tracks time of day and "hard brakes". It was annoying to have in as you really have to pamper the brakes to not get a hard brake. Would I do it again? Probably not, and even with the "discount" I got from using it I have switched to another carrier and saved about $150 a year.

Re: Would you put a tracker in your car?

Tell me if I'm wrong, but don't we already have them? If you have On Star, or that "911" button on your mirror, doesn't that automatically track the vehicle? On Star can dispatch police and medical personnel to the scene if it detects your air bags have been deployed, and you don't answer, or are incapacitated. It couldn't accomplish that if it didn't know your exact location. I'm told it can even tell what side of the street or freeway you're on because of the compass in your GPS.

I think if you have U-Connect 8.4 you've got it, like it or not. This is only going to get worse. The "black boxes" on these cars can keep records of engine RPM, vehicle speed, etc. So if you really think about it, what can you hide? The days of personal privacy are long gone. Technology has all but guaranteed that.

I can understand your point, but I don't want to be penalized by my insurance company every time my collision avoidance goes off for no reason. From my understanding those little black boxes that the insurance Co. want you to install record hard or sudden stops.

The black boxes in the car from the factory only tell on you if you've majorly screwed up.

Re: Would you put a tracker in your car?

I know exactly where you're coming from. But I think in time, this is going to be another one of those things that gets rammed down our throats, like it or not. The only way you'll be able to avoid it, is to take the bus or walk.

Let's face it, they got Bin Laden by monitoring his courier's cell phone calls in Pakistan of all places. And the guy was being careful as hell all the while. No matter, they got him. So if they really want to, it's child's play for them to monitor your brand new, computer saturated, sophisticated Jeep.... Or else dispatch a police drone to see what's going on in your back yard from 30,000 ft. up.
