100% Gasoline...definately better

Well I drove several hundred miles on 100% gas and I can honestly say the engine does run better. Not a big difference but enough to be able to tell. It runs smoother and idle's better. On 10% ethanol it seemed like on a very slow acceleration the engine would not hesitate but as if you would back off on the gas peddle causing the transmission to not shift tight. On 100% gas, definately a nice solid tight shift as it goes through the gears. No wishy washy. One other thing I noticed, on the highway at 65-70 mph (I-81)I went to pass a car and floored it and it kicked in and set me right back in my seat. God only knows how fast I was moving when I came back into the right lane but DAMN it felt great. Good solid, strong acceleration. So....I'm pleased with the results and will continue to use the 100% gas whenever I can. The station is 18 miles away from my house but I go past it 2-3 times a week so its no problem. Obviously when I go on a trip I'll go back to 10% ethanol just for convenience. The MPG did go up but only about 1-1/2 mpg. It costs 18 cents/gal. more so that's a wash, no gain there. All that driving was also running with the A/C on at all times, that might give me another 1/2 mpg. Thanks again Guys for all your input.

Re: 100% Gasoline...definately better

You are fortunate if you live in a area where you can purchase ethanol-free gasoline. In large cities and heavy industrial areas where air pollution is an issue, all gasoline must contain at least 10% ethanol. These geographical areas are referred to as "EPA Non-Attainment Areas" because the area has not met the EPA standards for reduction in volatile organic compounds (VOC) and nitrous oxide (NOx) pollutants. I live in the Houston, TX metro area, ethanol-free gas is not available for approximately 100-mile radius.

PURE GAS is a cell phone app that locates and maps the closest service stations providing ethanol-free gas. It provides address and distance to both branded and unbranded stations. PURE GAS is a great tool to avoid ethanol.

If I had a choice, I would never buy ethanol gasoline.

Re: 100% Gasoline...definately better

Hey Brainstormer, I found another station with 100% gas a few miles away from the one I have purchased from. I live in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. Its completely farm land. With you giving everyone that very nice explanation (thank you), it makes sense that 100% gas is in an area like this. My son-in-law's Dad has a farm and he was telling me he goes out of his way to get the pure gas for all the farm equipment. Says it makes a big difference with some of the machinery.I had to take my wife to the Dulles Air Port this morning which is about 190 miles round trip and my mpg was 25.1 That would make it about 3 mpg more than 10% ethanol. Every little bit helps. lol !!

JEEP is an agile 4x4, but it can't swim. Aviation fuel is +$5.00.
The PureGas app is free.
