01 WJ headlight problem

When I get out of the jeep I always turn the headlight switch off just to be sure they turn off. I get out of it today and turn it to the off position and the marker lights turn off but the headlights won't. Also when I turn off the switch my mileage light comes on and when I turn it on the mileage light goes dim and reads kind of weird. Any clue? Alternator going out or what. I just put a brand new battery in yesterday

Re: 01 WJ headlight problem

You donīt have the time delay activated for the headlights after switching ignition to OFF? You can change the time delay on the EVIC.

Re: 01 WJ headlight problem

It just now started doing this. I usually just turn off the head lights everyone I get out. Now it isn't working. Sometimes they do go off sometimes they dont

Re: 01 WJ headlight problem

But did you check the EVIC? Since you changed the battery yesterday, it can be that it reverted to an other setting then it was before.

How do I change the setting? I don't even know what to change it to. I know you can reset it like for miles to change oil.

Re: 01 WJ headlight problem

The EVIC is the electronic vehicle information center, the one at the overhead mirror. You will have to go to menu and go through it until reaching "headlight delay". Check if its not set at any delay time, or ofcourse at the delay time you prefer. I have mine set at 60 seconds, gives me enough time to reach the house before I'm completely in the dark.

But shouldn't it still turn off when I turn the switch to the off position? My high beams turn off but my lows don't. Those are after market. Then sometimes when they don't turn off I can get in it and drive for a few with the light switch on and the when I stop turn them off and sometimes they will go off.

Re: 01 WJ headlight problem

Found out it was my negative battery terminal not grounding good enough. When I had the new battery out in yesterday it didn't get that good of connection
