02 GC overland 4.7. Steering lumpy in one direction at low revs

My 02 GC 4.7 has an odd steering problem. With the engine revving I can steer lock to lock no problem. However with the engine ticking over or in fact anywhere below about 1000 revs, turning to the right lock becomes real lumpy and stiff. Sometimes it's ok and other times not. When it becomes stiff you can hear the steering pump hissing in the same way it does if you hold the steering too hard in full lock. It only does this whilst turning to the right. When your driving at normal speed its fine its just when stationary or maneuvering slowly. Any ideas guys?

It can be that the steering pump is getting weaker and that it is a heavier to steer to the right then to the left for whatever reason. I would jack up the front end and check if you can easily move the steering without the hydraulic power. If there would be a mechanical problem, you probably will discover it then.

Well, strange. I jacked the front off and tried turning the wheels lock to lock with the engine off. I did both by turning the actual wheels by hand and also using the steering wheel. No problems at all. I then tried with the engine running. No problem at all. Dropped it in the floor and turned to left lock, no prob. From straight ahead to right lock. Lumpy! Don't get it?

So steering pump seems to be ok and mechanical part as well. Only thing left is the steering gearbox valve assy.
