05 JGC shifting issue

2005 JGC Full Time 4WD. Often doesn't shift until RPMs are above 3500 to 4000. Often I just use the "sport shift". Any advice? Another intermittent problem. 117,000 miles. Filter and fluid changed to try and remedy this problem already. Thanks in advance.

Re: 05 JGC shifting issue

Which engine/transmission? Did you already check for any fault code(s) stored? Many times shift issues are caused by the TPS or a bad speed sensor.

No codes stored. No Check Engine Light on.

Re: 05 JGC shifting issue

The 3.7L uses the NAG1 transmission. The speed sensors on that transmission are inside and part of the electrical control unit. So not a very easy/cheap fix. I would start by changing the TPS.

Re: 05 JGC shifting issue

Thanks. I will start with the TPS. Do you have any suggestions for the stalling issue I have posted on?

Re: 05 JGC shifting issue

It could well be that the TPS is also the problem for the stalling. If you have a scanner which shows live data, then you could check the TPS output and see if the percentage changes without messing with the gas pedal. Sometimes TPS problems can be re-created by lightly tapping on the TPS while running and see/hear the rpm change.
