Re: 06 qd2 rear diff binding while cold
So after new fluids it's getting worse? That could be bad news. The differential doesn't require friction modifier. Only the front & rear diffs. One 4oz. bottle in each. If you have ELSD's in your diffs, they should have put in the FM when they changed the fluids, not after you drove it for a week without.
My 07 GC just started having very mild binding when reversing out of my driveway but only in the front diff. I had no history of fluid changes (I'm second owner) so at 63K I changed both diffs and xfer case myself. It's very easy to do. My issue has gone away after the fluid change. My fluids didn't look too bad compared to the new stuff. Although the front diff fluid was noticably darker than the rear was.
I would suggest one last try to save it. Flush and fill the rear diff again making sure to add the 4oz FM at the same time. You can remove the old fluid yourself with a hand pump through fill hole (behind rubber grommet). That way you don't have to pull the diff cover again.
