07 grand cherokee rear wipers won't work

Had been working perfectly in all positions no problem..Now only thing that works is washer. Checked fuse and blown. As I was Replacing fuse, pushing in, heard spark and blew that fuse..Tried to manually move arm..would move out of park, but not even wiggle otherwise..Unhooked battery and put in new fuse, but when I hooked battery back up, the fuse blew again..Thanks
I should clarify: if you twist switch to spray position, it squirts fluid, but wiper arm doesn't move in that position either.
From my research, it looks like it could be 1a.Wiper motor seized or 1b. bad 2. Wire broken in wire harness to lift gate. 3.Relay or circuit breaker bad...Where are these located?
Dealer wants $79.99 to diagnose...other mechanic shop (does a lot of work for other Jeep owners) says $50.00..Do you think it's worth the extra money to let dealer do it?

Re: 07 grand cherokee rear wipers won't work

The rear wiper motor relay sits on the junction blockx, where also the fuse sits. You could remove the connector from the rear wiper motor and try a new fuse again, if it doesnīt blow then, then you know that the short is inside the wiper motor. If it still blows, then the problem is the wiring.
If you donīt want to mess with it yourself, i would go to that mechanic you mentioned.

Re: 07 grand cherokee rear wipers won't work

THANKS for replying...I'm new to forum, so please excuse if not doing this right..Is junction block under hood )? The fuse that keeps blowing is in the fuse box beside of the steering column.

Re: 07 grand cherokee rear wipers won't work

The junction block sits indeed under the steering column. Under the hood is the PDC (power distribution center). See attached drawing of the junction block with the rear wiper motor relay on the lower side.

Re: 07 grand cherokee rear wipers won't work

is there a fuse in the junction box or are you talking about the fuse #22 in the fuse box with all the other fuses?

Re: 07 grand cherokee rear wipers won't work

The junction block is where sits fuse 22 for the rear wiper. There is no other fuse in the circuit after fuse 22. So you could remove the rear wiper motor relay, but the change that the short is in between fuse 22 and the relay is very remote, since both are on the junction block. I would remove the rear wiper motor connector and try another fuse.

I think I'll take your advice and unhook the wiper motor and see if the fuse still blows..Do I need to unhook the battery first

Re: 07 grand cherokee rear wipers won't work

It is normally a good idea to disconnect the negative battery terminal when working on the electrical system, but in this case, for removing the connector from the rear wiper motor, its not really necessary. The fuse is already blown, so there is no power.

Re: 07 grand cherokee rear wipers won't work

1. I unplugged wiper motor, turned ignition to acc and cycled switch thru all the options and fluse did not blow...turned key off, turned switch to off and plugged motor back in and cycling thru positions did not blow fuse until I turned key to accessories (ACC) position and moved switch through all positions and then the fuse blew. (Am I correct in assuming the motor is probably bad?? Are there other potential problems?)
Tried to take off wiper arm by removing nut on end of shaft, but it wouldn't budge even with wd 40 and much wiggling and prying...There was a silver metal bushing in the center (kinda like a sleeve) of the plastic arm that wouldn't budge either .There was a 1/8 inch by1" crack in the plastic behind the sleeve and no one has accessed the nut in the arm since the factory, so I think they may have tightened the nut too tight and forced it down wedging it onto the shaft expanding it and cracking the arm base ...Gave up...

Re: 07 grand cherokee rear wipers won't work

The wiper motor must have an internal short then. To remove the wiper arm there are special pullers for it. The wiper arm normally fits very tight and is a pain to remove without a puller. When iīm not wrong it is the same puller which (can be) used to remove the battery terminals.

Re: 07 grand cherokee rear wipers won't work

I believe that many sgandard two or three arms pullers will do. Just take your jeep to a shop and try to fit it.
