1 month old Grand Cherokee not starting

Hi folks, got my brand new Cherooke last month 12th. Today morning it wont start. Finally I jump started without any issue. Kept it on for about 15 minutes for battery recharge. Then switched on and off couple of times without any problem.

Have been wondering why battery died so early, within a month? I have driven it for just 900 km. Thought I may have left the lights on last night but thats not the case as I checked the light switch and it was off on manual mode. Cabin lights were off as well. All electronic items were powered off also. I am very conservative with battery usage as well. Had disabled headlights in locking and unlocking mode when I got the ride.

We had extensive fog ealry morning today which lasted for a long time, till about 10 am from 4 am. I guess something happened due to this.

Any clarification or others experience on similar situation will help in future.

Thanks

Muzzy

Re: 1 month old Grand Cherooke not starting

The only thing I can think to check at this time are the battery terminal clamps.

A loose clamp can intermittently keep the battery from fully charging or keep a vehicle from starting.

Re: 1 month old Grand Cherooke not starting

My suggestion is you just keep an eye on it... if it went 900 km with no issues like this I would tend to think there was an external cause. Not that I am saying that is the only thing it could be but I will save you time by telling tou a trip to the dealer without some type of pattern failure your result will be wasted time and being told "no problem found". I dont have access to dealer info any longer not working for chrysler any longer, so I dont know for sure if there is any kind of update for ignition off draw, in which case you wont know without bringing it in.

If it happens again I would again try to gather more info on anything that may be powered up still then get it into the dealer with all the info you have gathered.

Check all the ground straps in the engine bay. My wifes 2011 durango had a few no starts and a ground strap was loose. I tightened it down and not one problem since.

Re: 1 month old Grand Cherooke not starting

Thanks guys. Appreciate your responses.

@bill_de. I had checked the terminals and they were fine. Rechecked them post your response. No issues there.

@2005JGC You are quiet right. Since jump starting the car no issue re-starting anytime. Been two days, push the button and cylinders fire up. I had called the dealer before doing anything. They advised me to jump start and everything will be fine. Maybe they had faced similar issue with other customers, am just assuming here. Knowing that both dealers in my country are lousy it would be wasted effort. But will surely go to them if this happens again.

@Scottina06 Will check the ground straps. Maybe that was the culprit.

Hi. Happened again yesterday and today. Took it to the dealer who ran a electronic battery test. Was all fine, no issues found. They asked me to bring it early morning if it happened again.

I thought my car was pulling to left side more which I informed the service manager. He told me this was a factory issue. Seems that steering wheel on a number of Jeep have been not fixed accurately due to which they tend to be slightly turned to right. Because of this when driving you feel the car is pulling left. And I wasn't the first one with this problem. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks for all the help guys, appreciate it.

Cheers

Muzzy

Happened again. Didn't switch on for 24 hours and battery was totally dead. Car back to dealer today. Seems the issue is with radio system. Even after car is off radio eats into the battery thus draining it in about 10 hours. Dealer had older software while mine came with later version. They will contact the os maker for issue. As per dealer it happened with other makes like durango and chrysler. All use similar software. Nothing I can do but leave the car with dealer again.

They had replaced battery when I had left it with them couple of weeks back but this is becoming very irritating. Hope others dont face similar issue.

The steering wheel on my 2014 Summit was off center. I had to hold the wheel to the right about 1-2" to go straight down the road. Dealer checked alignment 2 times and it was still off. I went to a tire shop that had the latest Hunter Hawkeye Elite alignment rack and it took them 2 times to get it correct. I think many techs just aren't trained properly and don't know what they are doing.

I've heard that when they perform the alignment at the assembly plant, they just get it close, and that's it.
