1994 JGC won't go in reverse, after linkage adjustment
I have a 1994 jeep grand cherokee with I6 automatic and NP231 transfer case. i recently replaced my front hubs and replaced axle and driveline ujoints. i adjusted my transfer case linkage by placing the transfer in neutral with the trunnion bolt loose insured the lever was in neutral and retightened per the Haynes procedure. now the jeep won't go in reverse just makes a slight grinding whining noise. it works fine in drive and all other positions. the transmission worked perfectly before. fluid levels are up and is clean/unburned. i have tried adjusting the transfer linkage up and down without any results. what did i do wrong or can you steer me in the right direction? I tried adjusting from the 4LO and 2HI without result. I'm getting ready to drop the tranny pan perform a service and adjust the rear band to spec etc but really feel i messed up the linkage somehow so now its not engaging?
Thank you, I am scratching my head...
