Re: 2000 Jeep grand Cherokee 4.7 L stalling intermittently

GC died again on way to work--couldn't restart it. Had it towed back to a local and reputable shop. They've had it since last Wednesday and checked any and all wiring, sensors, done multiple scans, driven it without stalling, and ultimately said they couldn't find any issues. He's going to give me a report on all items checked, but I'm not super confident about the GC's reliability as I'm sure there's "something" going on with it. I'll keep you posted.

Intermittent problems can be very hard to solve. You said once that the PCM didnt show anything when retrieving the fault codes. So did it show "DONE" ?
If there is/was a shorted sensor, then most of the time the PCM will not show any fault. If you have a scanner, just plug it in when the fault is there, without switching ignition to off. You probably get a no communication message on the scanner.
That is because the PCM doesnt send any signal on the PCI data bus. Now you will have to find out if the problem is the PCM itself, or one of its sensors. Next time the problem occurs, dont switch the ignition off, but disconnect the TPS and the MAP connectors one by one, and check if the indications return to normal. The engine will not start, but you could find a shorting sensor this way.

This last time, I tried to retrieve a fault code via the "key dance" and it didn't display "done", only the mileage. The mechanic said he checked those three sensors and they were operating at normal voltage parameters. I'll have more details tomorrow as I'll be picking it up.

Re: 2000 Jeep grand Cherokee 4.7 L stalling intermittently

When it doesnt show done or a fault code, then it was not doing the fault code retrieval. Most probably because the PCM was not working (properly). If the sensors all are ok at the moment that the fault is there, than most probably the PCM itself is faulty. There are cases known of corrosion on the PCM lid, which caused internal shorts in the PCM.

Re: 2000 Jeep grand Cherokee 4.7 L stalling intermittently

I've got a PCM (programmed from a Mopar Authorized seller) on the way. Hoping this is the magic bullet for what has been an aggravating and confounding issue. After reading numerous posts and forums citing identical symptoms resulting in a successful PCM swap, I figured I' go this route. I'll let you know how it turns out--thanks again for all of the tech counsel.

OK--so PCM arrived yesterday, installed it this afternoon (an easier replacement)

Started it up, runs great thus far--assuming that was the problem, anything I should take note of if it were to die again?
