Yes, the hoses should feel rock hard with engine hot. The radiator cap has a 18 PSI pressure relief, so that the system stays pressurised. The higher pressure raises the boiling point of the coolant.
If a head is warped, it is probably loosing coolant in the oil or burning it of in a cylinder. When you don't loose any, i wouldn't be too scared about a warped head. Also a warped head could cause combustion gases in the coolant. Observe your overflow reservoir, when bubbles appear in the coolant all the time, it would be a sign of a head gasket leak and maybe warped head.
