2001 WJ Misfire

Hi all,

I got a 01 larado that, every so often will misfire then return to normal. It's usually while driving. Here's the codes I pulled:

P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
P0302 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
P0121 - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "A" Circuit Range/Performance
P0305 - Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected
P0306 - Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected

Is there a common issue that could cause these? And why only 1, 2,5 and 6?

This is my first jeep, I bought it used and is done this from my day one.
I changed the plugs and it didn't get better.

any input would be awesome! Thanks in advance

Re: 2001 WJ Misfire

Welcome to the garage.
The TPS seems to have a problem. I would reset the codes and see if they come back. If so, for P0121, i would start changing the TPS.
If you still have misfire codes thereafter, i would check the fuel trim figures with a scanner, to see if the PCM maybe is down trimming the fuel injection pulse to a level that it will cause misfires (too lean mixture will not burn well).
Do you have the I6 engine?
If you donīt have a scanner, but do have an android phone, you could buy a cheap bluetooth dongle and download the free app Torque.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have the 4.0l v6.
I'll change it the tps this weekend. I have a bluetooth scanner and cleared the codes. First the tps code come back, then it misfired in those same cylinders the next time I drove.
