2002 WJ front diffy hum/noise

Hi Everyone, new to the site and first post on the forum (yep I'm popping the cherry!) be gentle with me.....

Rebuilt the front diffy on my 2002 Grand Cherokee. I'm a good home mechanic and have rebuilt an engine or two in my lifetime. Diagnosing is my weak point so here goes:
Dana 30 axle. Full rebuild due to noise. Full bearing and race rebuild, the old ones were starting to pit so the timing was perfect. Pinion and carrier bearings pressed on and new seals.

The problem is there was a hum when I drove it around the block. Upon further inspection the yoke has up and down movement but not in and out "slop" I rechecked the torque of the pinion nut and it's set at 220 ft pounds. The races went in all the way (yes, they pinged differently) and I'm guessing with the 220 ft/#'s they'd be snugged in if they weren't.

My only guess is that the new crush sleeve is in incorrectly (wrong way?) Any suggestions?
I'm about to yank out the pinion seal, take out the crush sleeve, re measure the length vs. the old one and put it in the opposite way it's in now. Oh, and possibly see if I can torque it with the old one to see if THAT will take out the "up and down" slop I have - I think that's the noise culprit - it's not seated properly.

Again, suggestions? Thanks in advance!
