2008 Diesel 3L GC Glow Plug Module specs
I recently changed out my glow plug module with a Dorman 904-310 which shows a compatible with the Jeep P/N 68013182AA, 68013182AB, 68013182AC. Dorman tells me the output voltage on their part is 5 volts. My Bosch 80050 glow plugs are 4 volt and they all died after about a month of use.
According to a local Mercedes specialist Jeeps have lower voltage glow plugs than Sprinters and Mercedes with the 3.0L engines of the same vintage which are reportedly in the 7 volt range. It would seem to make sense that if a higher output voltage module was used with a lower input glow plug, the glow plugs would burn out eventually. On the other hand, if a lower output module was used with a higher input voltage glow plug, the consequence would be slower warming. I am not sure however, that 1 volt over the glow plugs rating would cause failure of all the plugs at once.
Plan A is to replace all my glow plugs with higher rated plugs. Plan B is to the module with Mopar 68013182AC and the 80050 steel glow plugs.
Does anyone know the output voltage of the 68013182AC?
Suggestions? as to other causes and remedies?
