2011 jeep rubicon unlimited 02 sensor

I had my check engine light come on and so I took my Jeep to the dealership and was told and showed that my 02 sensor had melted by the connection point. Iwas told that it would be $232.00 to replace the 02wire harness. My question is : Can I drive my jeep in the meantime without harming my engine?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

John.

Re: 2011 jeep rubicon unlimited 02 sensor

Do you recall which O2 sensor it was? Was it upstream of the catalyser or down stream from it?
Was the wire harness resting against a hot exhaust part, that it melted?
If the O2 sensor heater doesn´t work, or the O2 sensor sens wiring is shorted or broken, then the PCM will not use the fine trimming of the fuel injection and will just use the preprogrammed fuel injection schedule (stay in open loop mode). You can drive in this way, but will have an increased fuel consumption.
I´m not sure if this could harm the catalyser in the long run.
