Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Diesel Check Engine Light

I am waiting for my dealer to get a DEF Injector to replace under warranty, although I have one on the shelf. I bought a DEF Injector several months ago ($200) to have on hand in case of emergency. Maybe I should put it up for sale to the highest bidder...

Thanks - I use both devices and will buy a ELM327. I assume it is available on Amazon.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Diesel Check Engine Light

My 2014 Jeep GC has been to the dealership 8x in 8 months. Now I need a new catalytic converter (11k miles). Car has been a complete disaster and think Jeep is going to put out a major recall soon as the dealership I went had two others with the same issues. Glad I have the extended warranty but enough is enough. If anyone has had a similar experience Id like to know how you resolved it. Thanks.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Diesel Check Engine Light

The DEF injector can clog pretty easily especially with poor quality or old DEF fluid. That fixed the problem briefly then came back and turns out cat converter failed. Jeep needs to go back to the drawing board because this isn't fun :-/

Mines been in 4 times last in 10 Dec and still there with mil and other lights and blocked exhaust warning all bec the sensors / computers are faulty. Getting the software fix this week but parts ie new exhaust temp sensors still coming from USA bec Chrysler / dealer having a tiff with each other......
So i might get car back late Jan. 4 breakdowns before 10000ks and still waiting. Dealer and Chrysler both agree exhaust is not blocked and the electronics are faulty.....Paul

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Diesel Check Engine Light

The check engine light on the diesel models is a known issue by Chrystler, despite what individual dealerships might say. I had mine in about six times before they got it fixed. First they replaced the DEF filter, then one of the knock sensors because it was loose, then they replaced the rest of sensors (not sure how many there are), then they replaced all the DEF injectors and finally they replaced the whole filter system. I haven't had any problems since then. Not sure about the individual codes but mine would throw something different every time they would make a change. As many of you are aware, the motor was built and designed by VM Motori and has been in production for more than 20 years. Chrystler modified it slightly to meet US emissions standards with the DEF system. Not sure why they didn't just modify the system from the sprinter van but they decided to design this DEF system specifically for the Jeep and have had issues with the various components, the DEF injectors being the most common failure point. It was a pretty annoying problem and any error code will cancel your auto start, but it was all covered under warranty.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Diesel Check Engine Light

Frequent engine light peons here too -- tends to come on within a day of being serviced. First round seemed to be connected to DEF system not clearing -- wound up driving at enforced reduced speed a couple of times.

Latest round -- being serviced for third time now -- seems also connected to exhaust system, showing incorrect DEF fluid levels among other probs. Latest incident was getting mileage countdown warning because of system -- dealer says cat converter and sensor need to be replaced, this did the trick for another one in the shop with similar probs.

We'll see. Love the car (2014 Summit CRD), but about had it with all these visits.
