I just re-read the bulletin and it also applies to the Cherokee. It sure sounds like it could address your issue.

Thanks! I googled and found it. Called the dealer and they will check. But looks like this is the problem. The bulletin says it also happens with the Jeep Cherokee not only the Grand Cherokee. And the description matches my problem (exempt from the fact that sometimes the car does not start in the first attempt). I should get a response soon and let you guys know. Really appreciate!

2014 Jeep Cherokee cranking too long to start

My wife picked up the car and so far so good. They said that the service bulletin did not apply to my case but that they replace the part anyways. And in addition to that did a few more things. I asked my wife to get a complete list of what was done so i can post here in case anyone else runs into this problem.

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee cranking too long to start

I'm wondering if it might be an issue with his fuel pump or having adequate fuel pressure at startup?

On all of my key ignition vehicles I'd always turn the switch to run and wait until the fuel pump stopped whining, which told me the fuel system was pressurized. Then I started the vehicle. If I didn't do this then I experienced an identical condition to what the OP posted.

My Honda Accord is very touchy this way, my old 02 GC was slightly less so.

I am reading some people complaining about same issue and saying the TIPM was the problem. I am not sure. But it seems like that the ling crank with no start aways happens after driving the vehicle a bit. Stopping for a bit and then starting the vehicle again. What p... me off is that this is a brand new car and they cannot figure out what is wrong. Anyways... Taking the car to the dealer on Monday.

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee cranking too long to start

Not sure if coincidence or not. But yesterday i started the car several time with no issues. The two times the problem occurred the key was right next to a cell phone inside my wife's purse. Maybe some interference going on?

Another week at the dealer and they still cannot figure out whats wrong. They have been working with Chrysler and at least they recognize something is wrong.

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee cranking too long to start

Got the car back and today it is cold in the low 20s. The car took about 3 seconds cranking to start. Is that normal? Or maybe i should take the car back?

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee cranking too long to start

After several attempts to fix the problem Chrysler agreed to replace the car. So at the end i am happy with outcome. Now going through the process

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee cranking too long to start

This happened to a new toyota I had. Turned out to be the fuel non return valve was faulty so had to get fuel pressure up each time to start. Normally stores at high pressure. Does your engine restart ok after a few minutes..
