I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited 3.0L Echo-diesel

I have tried the factory reset and YouTube video way to reset my oil change needed and oil life indicator with no success. I have tried the following methods:

Vehicles with push-button start: (have done this 12 times unsuccessful in reset)

1. Without pressing the brake pedal, press the ENGINE START/STOP button and cycle the ignition to the ON/ RUN position (Do not start the engine).
2. Slowly depress the accelerator to the floor and release it three times within 10 seconds.
3. Without pressing the brake pedal, press the ENGINE START/STOP button once to return the ignition to the OFF/LOCK position.

Vehicles with diesel engines (export models): (have done this 12 times unsuccessful in reset)

1. Cycle the ignition to the "ON/RUN" position (Do not start the engine).
2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it fully depressed for at least 30 seconds.
3. Press and release the brake pedal six times while holding the accelerator pedal pressed.
4. Perform one ignition OFF-ON cycle, start the engine and verify that the reminder has been reset.

Repeat the process if the indicator does not reset.

Do I have any other options known to reset the oil change needed and oil life indicator? The dealer is useless where I live, have taken the Jeep in a few times for the oil change indicator coming on early (5000 to 6000 miles) not getting anywhere near the 10K mark between oil changes. I decided to do the oil change myself this time and discovered the dealer had overfilled my engine ladt oil change, the 2013 diesel model took 9 quarts the 2014 model takes 8 quarts per oil change, I drained at least 9 quarts out of the oil pan..... Could really use some help here, I do not want to waste anymore time at the dealer with this issue.

bill_de,

Tried the instructions on page 24 and 25 , when I get to the oil life screen and try to press and hold the right arrow button to access the oil life reset it goes to the battery voltage screen the oil life reset option does not come up as an option for me to select.

I am following the instructions for passive entry equipped
Oil Life Reset
Your vehicle is equipped with an engine oil change indicator system. The “Oil Change Required” message will flash in the EVIC display for approximately 10 seconds after a single chime has sounded, to indicate the
next scheduled oil change interval. The engine oil change indicator system is duty cycle based, which means the engine oil change interval may fluctuate, dependent upon your personal driving style.
NOTE: Use the steering wheel EVIC controls for the following procedure(s)
Vehicles Equipped With Passive Entry
1. Without pressing the brake pedal, press the ENGINE START/STOP button and cycle the ignition to the ON/RUN position (do not start the engine.)
2. Press and release the DOWN arrow button to scroll downward through the main menu to “Vehicle Info”.
3. Press and release the RIGHT arrow button to access the ”Oil Life” screen.
4. Press and hold the RIGHT arrow button for one second to access the ”Oil Life Reset” screen. (this is where I do not get the oil life reset option it just goes to the battery voltage screen)
5. Press and release the DOWN arrow button to select “Yes”, then press and release the Right arrow button to select reset of the Oil Life.
6. Press and release the Up arrow button to exit the EVIC
screen.

Still no joy in resetting the oil change due and oil life indicator, if anyone has any ideas on this I would greatly appropriate it. This just does not seem like it should be this difficult, is there a chance that during the last software update the dealer performed they could have messed up the software load for this causing the reset options not to work?

Does anyone know of if there is any scan tool software that I can use to force the reset?

This is just a shot in the dark, because I can't think of anything else. Are you sure you are in 'run' and not in the "accessory" position?

Thank you, yes I was in the run position but did not wait for the system to fully post before depressing the pedal 3 times in 10 seconds. I had to wait for the 5 bells to finish sounding then depress the pedal 3 times in 10 seconds and the oil life reset. None of the manuals or videos mentioned waiting for the system to complete the initial system post before depressing the pedal.

All good now, thank you everyone for all your help.

Well finally got the steps to work, one thing that I am not sure if everyone was trying to tell me that I did not understand about this, there are 5 bells sounded when you put the 2014 jeep in the run position, you have to wait for these bells to finish before depressing the gas (diesel) pedal 3 times. I was pushing the key-less start button twice then as soon as it was in the run position depressing the pedal 3 times within 10 seconds them cycling back to the off position.

Below are the steps I used to successfully reset the oil life indicator to 100%

"Vehicles Equipped With Keyless Enter-N-Go™
1. Without pressing the brake pedal, press the ENGINE
START/STOP button and cycle the ignition to the
ON/ RUN position (Do not start the engine.)
2. Wait for the system to post completely (on 2014 jeep it was 5 bells sounded)
3. Once bells stop fully depress the accelerator pedal, slowly, three times
within 10 seconds.
4. Without pressing the brake pedal, press the ENGINE
START/STOP button once to return the ignition to the
OFF/LOCK position.

Thank you so very much for posting this, this is the only thing that has worked and it worked flawlessly!!

Just a thought to save you some big headaches. Buy a OBDII Bluetooth connector that plugs into the port under the dash above or near the lever opening the hood. The software is pretty inexpensive for an iPhone/iPad or android system. You can reset almost anything with those. You will have to put your engine in as a Dodge or a Chrysler. Jeep is highly protective of the onboard diagnostic software but at least you will have your engine info for the coming years.

so I can't get this to work. Just got back from the dealer today and they did not reset the oil life indicator. I have a GDE hot tune so I don't know if that has anything to do with me not getting this to work, or i just can't follow directions. I wait for the 5 chimes, step on the gas pedal 3x and hit the button to the off position. Once I start the Jeep up again, it gives me the same error message about the oil. Should I be doing something else here?

thanks

just got back from the dealer, he did it in around 30 seconds (I watched him do it). He said the eco diesels are a pain. He also said that sometimes you have to go past the 3 presses on the accelerator pedal, he basically kept pressing it, until it reset. That number was 5 for me. He said it ranges from 3 to 7 so so just keep slowly pressing the pedal til it resets.

Hope this help someone else out there.
