Has the battery died when not parked in the garage?

No never not one time. And I think I found the culprit yet it doesnt make sense. An ipod plugged in? And now the tire pressure system is throwing a code... its going in to the service department. 60000 dollar car shoild not be doing this!!!

Hm, interesting.

Wonder if something related to talking to the iPod is keeping too much of the UConnect stuff awake. That actually could make some sense, and would be a good bug report to feed back into design. The battery dying overnight (assuming >50Ah capacity) means there is a LOT of drain (like > 5A).

somewhat off-topic: as a longtime embedded-systems engineer, it truly amazes me that this stuff works as well as it does. If you can ditch the iPod and show that it never happens, that is extremely good info to get the problem (which I don't recall seeing here before) resolved for everyone.

I too am an engineer! And love this forum and digging in to find the solution. Ipod is unplugged all settings are at factory. For some reason the TPS tire pressure system has thrown a fault so now trouble shooting that as well. That may be related to the dead battery though and could reset on my trip to the service dept tomorrow

Great technology is lost on folks who dont know what they have... that aside, this complaint is something that could strand anyone so it is good to find early... and since I keep reading "tighten your cables" obviously quality has been over looked. And that is not lost on anyone.

It's funny that the cable issue keeps coming up. There were, for sure, some cars that had a ground cable on the right side, that the nut wasn't tightened. Lot's of people checked, myself included, but only a few found the situation to exist. My guess is that one guy on one or two shifts, at the beginning of production, didn't know there was a nut there to tighten.

My first visit with the Christmas tree dash, the dealer contacted Jeep and were told it was the loose ground. I had checked it as soon as I heard about it here, well before I had the problem. Since it was already tight, the dealer disconnected the cable, roughed it up a bit, and put it back together. A couple of weeks later they changed the PCM.

I think the loose ground band wagon has passed, at least that one on the front right rail.
