2015 Grand Cherokee-not sure what's wrong

I'm a new Jeep owner. On a few occasions at different speeds and in drive the engine will make a loud noise as if it's changed into a low gear and there is an arrow on the display from the "D" pointing down. It won't gear properly unless I shift it into drive again? Anyone experienced this and why it happens so randomly? Thanks

By chance were you resting your hand on the shift stick? If so you have selected manual shift mode which allows you to use the shift paddles.

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee-not sure what's wrong

Thanks for your reply, really appreciate it. Actually after talking to someone else the arrow that I am seeing is showing 1 with the arrow pointing down. I'm in normal drive when this is happening and it does this on it's own and at various speeds. It's happened about 5 times in the 3 weeks I've had it. Once on the highway. My hands were at the bottom of the steering wheel when this happened. Seems like I should take it in and get it checked out. Can't be good for the transmission. Unless diagnostics can read the problem my luck it won't happen while in the hands of a service technician.

Nancy,

Here's a link on how paddle shifting works.

Paddle Shift Mode - Jeep Grand Cherokee User Manual [Page 116]

It may provide some insight and help to explain to the dealer what is going on. I have a 2015 Limited.

Tcm is more than likely faulty is what it sounds like if it is NOT an operator error

What does Tcm stand for? I took it in for service and they couldn't find any codes to detect a problem. It's still doing it randomly. Thanks.

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee-not sure what's wrong

Well just thought I'd give an update to my mysterious switching to paddle shifting from drive problem. My dealer has replaced the steering column, pcm and tcm. Sadly I still have the problem and onto the next possible solution! Just wondering if anyone else has experienced same problem or if anyone has any other solutions ideas. Thanks

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee-not sure what's wrong

Hey guys I just bought a new V6 Grand cherokee from a week earlier.. it's a beast and I love the car but the only thing I noticed is the gear jerking between 1st and 2nd gear only... the other shifting process us Good so far no issues.
I took it to the dealer and rhe told me it's normal which I believe it's not because I never owned a car that has this issue... and it's only happening when I release the paddle and it shifts to the 2nd gear with a jump and clank noise...

Any idea ?
