I have the common 4.7L manifold leak/tick. I dont want to replace the manifold bolts with the garbage stock ones. What bolts can i used that will maintain the stock heat sheilds and will last long? Any links to stainless steel bolts?
I have had that issue for about 2 yrs, it is annoying but it looks like a pita to do so i just left it alone till it gets very bad. Stainless might hold better that our stock made in taiwan bolts we have.
Damn that is pretty young. I dont really now what to look for but my 05 4.7 with 60k seems to be ok. No ticking and i dont hear a leak, my old xj had a cracked exh manifold (like all 4.0's) If this happens to mine though i am just gonna get headers done.
I had an exhaust leak on the driver side manifold too. One of the bolt heads had broken off so I had to remove all the wiring out of the way from the top side in the engine bay for better access and I also removed the plastic in the fender well to give me access to the lower rear bolts. I then removed all the bolts and then the exhaust manifold. This left the broken bolt still in the engine. Just got some pliers and unscrewed it and replaced it with a grade 8.8 bolt. Messed up thing is that the bolt head ended up breaking again and it was the one I had replaced. I ended up using Grade 10.8 bolts and everything is still fine. Was able to put the heat shield back on with some of the stock bolts. Some had broke so I wasn't able to mount it exactly like stock. Sorry but don't remember the sizes. If you plan on doing it yourself, once you get one of the bolts out, take it to the parts store and size it. That's what I had to do.
