4.7L V8 Manifold Leak - First Generation

Hey There Good to be here!!!

So my 4.7L 05 Grand Cherokee is making a ticking sound and I found out it's the left side exhaust manifold. The sound was coming from the back of the manifold. Upon further inspection today I saw that the back part of the heat shield...the bolt holding it to the manifold was broken. I could take my hand and pull the shield away from the manifold.

I called the local Jeep dealer and spoke to an awesome guy in the parts department who said he had the same issue on his Durango...he said that he changed out the gasket, bolts, and studs.

He also said I shouldn't have to replace the manifold...just the gaskets, bolts, and studs.

What do you guys think about this? I asked him about the manifold warping and he said that shouldn't be an issue with the 4.7L...just the gasket.

This is a common issue with the 4.7L exhaust manifold bolts. It is usually the rear most bolts, upper or lower or both, and is usually a pretty quick fix. New Bolts and Gasket and you're good to go.
